MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH ILLUSTRATIONS BY OTHER ARTISTS There is an abundance of renditions in artwork and in film, mostly very red and very gothic. Here are some of the more unusual ones 1) Illustration for "The Masque of the Red Death" by Harry Clarke, 1919. Harry Clarke was an Irish Arts & Crafts artist; he illustrated many editions of Poes work. 2) Illustration by Aubrey Beardsley, 18941895 I looked at this particular picture during the last unit, and was inspired at the time to have a quick read of the story.

3) Promotional artwork for Punchdrunk Theatre Company, 2007 Punchdrunk are one of my favourite theatre companies and I am truly sorry that I missed this! Apparently the performances cumulated in a masked ball for audience and performers alike. Fab!

4) The Mask of the Red Death (1964) directed by Roger Corman Typical 60s horror cover but interesting because it s one of the few pieces of artwork I can find that doesnt show Death with scythe, or a mask.
