Exciting News From Our Principals

November is the time of the year that we reflect upon all things to be thankful about. To assist families that are less fortunate than us the week of November 7-11 is our annual CCE food drive. The students can bring cans of food to school to assist. All food collected will be donated to CCC. We will also thank all of our Veterans for the gift of freedom on November 11. Please join us for our Veterans Day program at 1:30 or 2:15 pm. We will give thanks to all our first responders by inviting them to eat our Thanksgiving meal with us in the cafeteria on Nov. 17. We have noticed an increased difficulty with listening skills in our children this year. Listening is, of course, crucial to learning. Research has proven that children who participate in a family meal do better in school. We know how hectic lives are these days, but if you can try to incorporate a few family meals together, with the television off and an emphasis on communication, this might help our children. We also wonder if part of the problem is the stimulation from machines. So many children are playing video games or watching fast paced television that they have difficulty attending to classroom lessons. Please consider monitoring the amount of time your child spends engaging in these activities. Independent play is excellent for brain development. Children really need time, and sometimes encouragement, to play outside, play with their toys, etc. Art or music activities are excellent also. In these stressful times, more than ever, it does indeed take a village to raise a child. Finally, we are thankful for such bright and curious students, a hard-working and dedicated staff, supportive and caring parents and a community that embraces Cypress Cove Elementary. Thanks for making CCE a happy place to be. Lisa and Arlene

PTA Presidents corner

Wow, I cant believe it is already November. Time has gone by so quickly to think we have already started the 2nd quarter of school. The PTA has been quite busy. We have finalized the Worlds Finest Chocolate/Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who supported us in this event. We sold approximately $38,000 of product in just 2 weeks. The PTA will profit 40% of that sale. Thank you to our team leaders Andrea Benefield and Melissa Malasovich for doing a great job organizing the event. A special thanks to Jane Stenstrom, who created our spreadsheet for tallying. It was a valuable tool to have. Thank you to everyone who came to help tally the orders and distribute the products, we could not have done this without you. Your help was tremendous!
