The Near Westside is bounded roughly by West Fayette, West, W. Onondaga, Delaware and Geddes Streets and adjacent areas. This area has frequently been singled out as a challenged area of deteriorating housing, poor demographics and high crime. Now, with the recent efforts of the Near Westside Initiative (NWSI) and the renovation of key industrial buildings in the area, the area is gaining in viability and prospects, as the nearby Armory Square did in the eighties. The Near Westside Initiative Business Association (NWSIBA) was formed as part of the NWSI to enable the businesses and not-for-profit entities in the area to get to know each other and to advance the area as a good place to locate and grow. Its formal mission statement states that The NWSIBA seeks to support neighborhood enterprise through the growth of new and existing businesses, the encouragement of entrepreneurial development, and promotion of the area as an attractive business district and destination for commerce. This directory will enable its members as well as others interested in the area to identify and better understand what each NWSIBA business or not-for-profit does and to contact them.
