ThispresentationofthecrimescommittedbytheMuslimsagainsttheSerbianpeopleofCentral PodrinjeisjustafractionoftheentirepogromoftheSerbianpopulationinthatregionthroughoutthe war.ThedestructionofSerbsettlementsandtheirculturalandreligiousinstitutionsinthatregionbear wounds,whichhaveevidentlynotyetbeenhealed. AccordingtooneoftheseveralhundredimportantdocumentsoftheBiHArmyinourpossession,the followinghasbeenstated:AttheendofJanuaryorbeginningofFebruaryin1993,withintheZoneof Responsibilityofthe8thOG(OperatingGroup,authorsremark),avast,linked,freeterritoryhadbeen formed,withitscentreinSrebrenica,covering95%oftheSrebrenicamunicipality,90%oftheBratunac municipality,60%oftheVlasenicamunicipality,and50%oftheterritoryoftheZvornikmunicipality. Furthermore,adirectphysicallinkwiththeliberatedvillagesoftheZeparegionwasestablished.1 Bythattime(attheendofJanuaryorthebeginningofFebruaryin1993),accordingtothesame document,intheabovelistedmunicipalities,theMuslimshadoccupiedanareaofmorethan850km2of theentireterritory.Theirundisputedmilitarysuccesshadnearlyresultedinthecompleteextermination ofthemanySerbsettlementsintheaforementionedmunicipalitiesandhadalsoproducedmuch tribulationamongsttheinhabitantsofSerbnationality. AfterthisMuslimcampaign,only860outofthe9,390localresidentsofSerbnationalityhadremained intheirhomesandintheirvillagesintheSrebrenicamunicipality3,or,justmerely9%.Bythefirst monthsofthewar,fearhadstruckwithintheSerbsettlements,aswellasalongtheroads,bywhich theyhadtriedtoescapefromtheirvillages,inordertoavoidtheterrorwhichhadblazedalloverthe place. ThatSerbiantragedywasnotamysterytotheworld.EventheStateDepartmentsspokesperson, RichardBoucher,hadstatedatapressconference,onJanuary26th,1993,thattheBosnianMuslim forceshadkilledatleast60Serbs,mainlycivilians,inthevillagessurroundingBratunac.Followingthat, thesameAmericanofficialalsomentionedthefollowing:Asaresultofthehostility,asmanyas5,000 people,primarilywomen,children,theelderlyandthewounded,hadfledtoLjubovija. Afterthisstatement,nosimilarpublicremarkshavebeenmadeintheUS,whichwouldalsohave depictedatrocitiesagainsttheSerbsaswell.Soonafter,theAmericanadministrationandtheAmerican ambassadorMadeleineAlbrighthadimposedthemostrigorousinformationblockademeasures, filteringanythingrelatedtotheslaughteringoftheSerbianpopulation.Ataboutthesametime,the PresidentofFRYugoslavia,DobricaCosic,andtheYugoslavgovernment,hadsubmitteda MemorandumonthewarcrimesandcrimesofgenocideinEasternBosnia(municipalitiesofBratunac, Skelani,andSrebrenica),carriedoutagainsttheSerbianpopulationbetweenApril1992andApril 1993,totheUNGeneralAssembly,aswellastheSecurityCouncil.

ThepogromoftheSerbsinthatregionisnoexception,anditisdifficulttoprovethatitexceedsthe sufferingoftheSerbsinotherpartsofthisformerYugoslavrepublic.Unfortunately,regardlessofwhich ofthewarringpartiesisofinterest,theoverallmagnitudeofthetragedy,causedbythewarinBosnia andHerzegovina,hasstillnotbeendocumentedthoroughlyenough,norhasitbeenobjectively acknowledged,estimated,andpublicized.

REVIEWOFTHEEVENTSINBOSNIAANDHERZEGOVINA
BeforewecovermoredetailedtestimoniesofthefateofSerbiansettlementswithintheSrebrenica region,wewillbeoccupiedwithsomeglobalindicatorswhich,atleasttoacertainextent,canportray anoverallscaleofthetribulationstheSerbshadfacedinBosniaandHerzegovina,intheindicatedwar period. Accordingtothedocumentation,which,aftermuchverification,shouldnotbecontroversial,itwas confirmedthatSerbswereexpelledfrom1,904settlements,or42.6%fromthetotalof4,464 settlementsinwhichtheywereregistered,accordingtothecensusof1991.Thesearepredominantly municipalitiesandsettlementsintheMuslimCroatFederation.Today,thosesettlementsareethnically cleansed,withtherareexceptionofreturningresidents,mostlytheelderlyandmembersofmixed marriages.DuringtwoaccountsoftheexodusofSerbs(recordedin1992and1995,fromtheterritoryof todaysMuslimCroatFederation,inreferencetotheaforementionedsettlementsandmunicipalities), over550,000individualsofSerbiannationality,or40%oftheoverallSerbpopulationinBiH,were expelled.Finally,accordingtothelistsandevidenceasofDecember31st,2009,theSerbiancasualties amountto30,707individuals.

Yet,whenaddressingthehumanlosses,wemuststressthattherestillexistsadisputablereliabilityof theinformationforthemunicipalities,whichwereunderthecontrolofCroatorMuslimauthorities duringthewarandremainundertheircontroltoday.Asaresult,foraconsiderablenumberof municipalities,theinformationatourdisposalcanbeconsideredcomplete(inthiscasewebelieve,for differentreasonsthatamaximumdeviationof5%oftheabovementionedfigurecanbetolerated).The secondgroupconsistsofmunicipalitieswhichwerepreviouslymentioned,andareprimarily(butnot exclusively)fromtheMuslimCroatFederation,inwhichthelistofthenamesofSerbvictimsandtheir numberscanconsiderablychangeinthecomingyears.
