Before the Apollo, before the Regal, before the Royal there was the Howard Theatre. At its inception, it was the "largest colored theatre in the world." Sadly shuttered and neglected since the 1980's, the once majestic building with its trunk of soul has survived death in order to be reborn in time to celebrate its Ribbon Cutting at 1pm on April 9, 2012, at 620 T St., NW, Washington, DC, 20001-5117 and its 101st anniversary at 6:30pm on April, 12, 2012 at its Grand Opening Gala Benefit Concert. The Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc and its Community Committee is leading a collaborative effort with the District of Columbia and other private entities to bring the life of music and the people back to the Howard Theatre. The Committee is looking for memorabilia, such as historical posters, pictures, programs, ticket stubs, etc. that you may have saved from your experience at the Howard Theatre. These items may be used for the opening display at the ribbon cutting and opening event in April.
