V: In recent news we both noticed this attitude from human beings when confronted either with a disaster, like what happened in 2011 Japan after the earthquake that caused a tsunami
In both cases even though confronted with an adversity human kind has been able to prevail, so for our monument we decided to do a monument for the Japanese citizens. Upon the creation of our mood board
K: there were several items that stood out such as location, and belief system being shinto or buddihism. Japanese life are shaped by these two belief systems , and they both teach their believers that people shouldnt focus on why the tragedy happened but on how they should proceed.

upon this we discovered the shinto belief that water is essential and reects spiritual cleansing and even the sound of water is inhabited in temples and shrines all over Japan.
Buddihism beliefs focuses on meditation through the form of a pathway or sando , which are usually marked by stone stairways and these pathways function as connecting an outside with front of the structure.

after selecting a sketch we felt that the uplifting and the ramp as a pathway was our main concern to reect the human perseverance. V: Re-approaching the design Karen and I looked at various coastal effects and the diagrams were a source of inspiration as well as the feedback that were given during critique.
K: We came up with a plastic man made that will allow water come in underneath the surface. The height has more purpose instead just making an arbitrary large scale monument, we decided that to reect the highest waves recorded which were between 26 ft-28ft highwe shall make a monument of the highest tsunami wave recorded should be marked as well as making a two component sculpture were the second piece will hold the proverb that in Japanese says after the storm the earth hardens

V: these are the orthographix...as visible the opening that is made the the range of the highest waves from 26-28 ft high to indicate the highest waves that happen during the tsunami and to indicate the perseverance people are higher above ground from this mark. the addition of the stairs was to provide the extra support in case you wouldnt be able to climb up the ramp

these are japanese characters to the proverb that translates to AFTER THE STORM THE EARTH HARDENS
K: nal model is called gambatte which in Japanese it means keep holding on tight
the stairs were created as mentioned to help the visitors to accomplish the goal in making all the way up to the dock-scenery
the visitors will be abut 30 ft high above the sea level to reect perseverance as the view the ocean which the hollowness of the sturcture wil permit the viewer not only see at through but also hear the harsh splash of the waves as well as nding a surprise
the proverb that encourages to keep going and dont let disasters get in the way, and only those who have make it to the top will be able to experience this as well it will be visible when is low tide
