BAAL:
Baal /Ba´al/ (bā´al), n.; Heb. pl. Baalim (-ĭm). [Heb.
ba'al lord.] 1. (Myth.) The supreme male divinity of
the Phoenician and Canaanitish nations.
☞ The name of this god occurs in the Old Testament
and elsewhere with qualifying epithets subjoined,
answering to the different ideas of his character; ; as,
Baal-berith (the Covenant Baal), Baal-zebub (Baal of
the fly).
2. pl. The whole class of divinities to whom the name
Baal was applied. Judges x. 6.
According to the Easton Bible Dict.
BAAL: lord. (1.) The name appropriated to the principal male god
of the Phoenicians. It is found in several places in the plural
BAALIM (Judg. 2:11; 10:10; 1 Kings 18:18; Jer. 2:23; Hos. 2:17).
Baal is identified with Molech (Jer. 19:5). It was known to the
Israelites as Baal-peor (Num. 25:3; Deut. 4:3), was worshipped till
the time of Samuel (1 Sam 7:4), and was afterwards the religion of
the ten tribes in the time of Ahab (1 Kings 16:31-33; 18:19, 22). It
prevailed also for a time in the kingdom of Judah (2 Kings 8:27;
comp. 11:18; 16:3; 2 Chr. 28:2), till finally put an end to by the
severe discipline of the Captivity (Zeph. 1:4-6). The priests of Baal
were in great numbers (1 Kings 18:19), and of various classes (2
Kings 10:19). Their mode of offering sacrifices is described in 1
Kings 18:25-29. The sun-god, under the general title of Baal, or
"lord," was the chief object of worship of the Canaanites. Each
locality had its special Baal, and the various local Baals were
summed up under the name of Baalim, or "lords." Each Baal had a
wife, who was a colourless reflection of himself. (2.) A Benjamite,
son of Jehiel, the progenitor of the Gibeonites (1 Chr. 8:30; 9:36).
(3.) The name of a place inhabited by the Simeonites, the same
probably as Baal-ath-beer (1 Chr. 4:33; Josh. 19:8).
According to /The Scriptures/Explanatory Notes/Lord:
Lord
Substituting the Name of ‫ יהוה‬with “LORD” or “Lord,” as has been
done in most translations, is against all Scripture:
(1) It is a transgression of the Third Command(ment) which
prohibits us from bringing His Name to naught, or falsifying it.
(2) It is a transgression of the command in Deb.̱ 4:2, “Do not add
to the Word which I command you, and do not take away from it.”
This is repeated in Deb.̱ 12:32, Mish. 30:6, Rev. 22:18-19.
(3) ‫ יהוה‬reproves the prophets in Yirm. 23:36, “You have changed
the Words of the living Elohim...”
(4) “Lord” is not an innocent title. We trace it back to the Roman
house-deity, and further back to the name of an Etruscan sovereign,
Larth, not forgetting that in those days the sovereigns were deities!
So this is a transgression of the clear command of Shem. 23:13.
/The Scriptures/Explanatory Notes/Ba`al:
Ba`al
This word, it seems, gradually became a proper name. A similar
Semitic word derives from the Aryan root Bhal, which means “to
shine,” according to some. According to W. H. Roscher’s well-
known lexicon of mythology, Baʽal (Bel, Belos) was the ancestral
and national deity of the Semites, and says that Baʽal was the
founder of Babeḻ (Babylon), according to secular history. He is
identified with Zeus, Jupiter, Ammon, Asshur, Assur, Kronos, and
Bel-Marduk. Morris Jastrow, Max Müller, and W. H. Roscher all
three agree: Baʽal is the Babylonian sun-deity. The Baʽals of the
nations were sun-deities, and Baʽal worship means sun worship.
According to am tract
BAAL:Lord,
1. In the Old Testament denotes an idol of the Phoenicians, and
particularly of the Tyrians, whose worship was also introduced
with great solemnities among the Hebrews, and especially at
Samaria, along with that of Astarte, Jud 6:25-32 2Ki 10:18,28. See
ASHTORETH, plural ASH’TAROTH. The plural, Baalim,
signifies images or statues of Baal, Jud 2:11 10:10. Of the
extent to which the worship of this idol was domesticated
among the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, we have an
evidence in the proper names of persons; as, among the former,
Ethbaal, Jerubbaal; and among the latter, Hannibal, Asdrubal,
etc. Among the Babylonians, the same idol was worshipped
under the name of BEL, which is only another form of the
word Baal, Isa 46:1 Jer 50:2 51:44. The worship of Baal was
established in Babylon in the famous tower of Babel, the
uppermost room of which served at the same time as an
observatory, and as the repository of a collection of
astronomical observations.
That in the astronomical, or rather, astrological mythology of
the East, we are to look for the origin of this worship in the
adoration of the heavenly bodies, is conceded by all critics. The
more common opinion has been, that Baal, or Bel, is the sun;
and that, under this name, this luminary received divine
honors. But the Greek and Roman writers give to the
Babylonian Bel the name of Jupiter Belus, meaning the planet
Jupiter, which was regarded, along with the planet Venus, as
the guardian and giver of all good fortune; and formed, with
Venus, the most fortunate of all constellations, under which
alone fortunate sovereigns could be born. This planet,
therefore, many suppose to have been the object of worship
under the name of Baal, as also the planet Venus under that of
Astarte. Not that the sun was not an object of idolatrous
worship among these nations, but in that case he is represented
under his own name; as 2Ki 23:11.
The temples and altars of Ball were generally on eminences.
Manasseh placed in the two courts of the temple at Jerusalem
altars to all the host of heaven, and in particular to Astarte,
2Ki 21:5,7. Jeremiah threatens the Jews who had sacrificed to
Baal on the house-top, Jer 32:29; and Josiah destroyed the
altars which Ahaz had erected on the terrace of his palace, 2Ki
23:12.
Human victims were offered to Baal, as they were also to the
sun. Jeremiah reproaches the inhabitants of Judah and
Jerusalem with "building the high places of Baal, to burn their
sons with fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal," Jer 19:5; an
expression which appears to be decisive as to the actual slaying
by fire of the unhappy victims to Baal. See MOLOCH.
The children of Israel were prone to serve Baal. See Nu 25:3
Jud 2:14 3:7. Under Samuel they put away their idols, 1Sa 7:4.
This continued under David and Solomon; but under Ahab,
whose wife Jezebel was a daughter of the Zidonian king
Ethbaal, the worship of Baal was restored with great pomp,
1Ki 16:31.
Joined with other words, Baal signifies also other false gods.
Baal-Berith, or the "lord of the covenant," was a god of the
Shechemites, Jud 8:33 9:4. Baal-Peor, or "the lord of Peor,"
was a filthy idol of the Moabites, Nu 25:3, 5 Ho 9:10. Baal-
Zebub, "lord of flies," was a god of the Philistines at Ekron.
See BEELZEBUB.
2. The word BAAL also occurs in many compound names of
places, not always having any reference to the idol.
According to Smith's
BAAL:
the supreme male divinity of the Phoenician and Canaanitish
nations, as Ashtoreth was their supreme female divinity. Some
suppose Baal to correspond to the sun and Ashtoreth to the moon;
others that Baal was Jupiter and Ashtoreth Venus. There can be no
doubt of the very high antiquity of the worship of Baal. It prevailed
in the time of Moses among the Moabites and Midianites, (nu
22:41) and through them spread to the Israelites. (nu 25:3-18;
deuteronomy 4:3) In the times of the kings it became the religion
of the court and people of the ten tribes, (1ki 16:31-33; 1ki
18:19,22) and appears never to have been permanently abolished
among them. (2ki 17:16) Temples were erected to Baal in Judah,
(1ki 16:32) and he was worshipped with much ceremony. (1ki
18:19,26-28; 2ki 10:22) The attractiveness of this worship to the
Jews undoubtedly grew out of its licentious character. We find this
worship also in Phoenician colonies. The religion of the ancient
British islands much resembled this ancient worship of Baal, and
may have been derived from it. Nor need we hesitate to regard the
Babylonian Bel, (isa 46:1) or Beaus, as essentially identical with
Baal, though perhaps under some modified form. The plural,
BAALIM, is found frequently, showing that he was probably
worshipped under different compounds, among which appear--
BAAL-BERITH (the covenant Baal), (jud 8:33; jud 9:4) the god
who comes into covenant with the worshippers. BAAL-ZEBUB
(lord of the fly), and worshipped at Ekron. (2ki 1:2,3,16) BAAL-
HANAN. a. The name of one of the early kings of Edom. (ge
36:38,39; 1ch 1:49,50) b. The name of one of David’s officers,
who had the superintendence of his olive and sycamore
plantations. (1ch 27:28) BAAL-PEOR (lord of the opening , i.e. for
others to join in the worship). We have already referred to the
worship of this god. The narrative (Numb 25) seems clearly to
show that this form of Baal-worship was connected with licentious
rites.

I. Name and Character of Baal:
In Babylonia it was the title specially applied to Merodach of
Babylon, which in time came to be used in place of his actual
name. As the word in Hebrew also means "possessor," it has been
supposed to have originally signified, when used in a religious
sense, the god of a particular piece of land or soil. Of this,
however, there is no proof, and the sense of "possessor" is derived
from that of "lord." The Babylonian Bel-Merodach was a Sun-god,
and so too was the Can Baal whose full title was Baal-Shemaim,
"lord of heaven." The Phoenician writer Sanchuniathon (Philo
Byblius, Fragmenta II) accordingly says that the children of the
first generation of mankind "in time of drought stretched forth their
hands to heaven toward the sun; for they regarded him as the sole
Lord of heaven, and called him Beel-samen, which means `Lord of
Heaven' in the Phoenician language and is equivalent to Zeus in
Greek" Baal-Shemaim had a temple at Umm el-Awamid between
Acre and Tyre, and his name is found in inscriptions from the
Phoenician colonies of Sardinia and Carthage.
II. Attributes of Baal:
As the Sun-god, Baal was worshipped under two aspects,
beneficent and destructive. On the one hand he gave light and
warmth to his worshippers; on the other hand the fierce heats of
summer destroyed the vegetation he had himself brought into
being. Hence, human victims were sacrificed to him in order to
appease his anger in time of plague or other trouble, the victim
being usually the first-born of the sacrificer and being burnt alive.
In the Old Testament this is euphemistically termed "passing" the
victim "through the fire" (2Ki 16:3; 21:6). The forms under which
Baal was worshipped were necessarily as numerous as the
communities which worshipped him. Each locality had its own
Baal or divine "Lord" who frequently took his name from the city
or place to which he belonged. Hence, there was a Baal-Zur, "Baal
of Tyre"; Baal-hermon, "Baal of Hermon" (Jud 3:3); Baal-
Lebanon, "Baal of Lebanon"; Baal-Tarz, "Baal of Tarsus." At other
times the title was attached to the name of an individual god; thus
we have Bel-Merodach, "the Lord Merodach" (or "Bel is
Merodach") at Babylon, Baal-Melkarth at Tyre, Baal-gad (Jos
11:17) in the north of Palestine. Occasionally the second element
was noun as in Baal-Shemaim, "lord of heaven," Baalzebub (2Ki
1:2), "Lord of flies," Baal-Hamman, usually interpreted "Lord of
heat," but more probably "Lord of the sunpillar," the tutelary deity
of Carthage. All these various forms of the Sun-god were
collectively known as the Baalim or "Baals" who took their place
by the side of the female Ashtaroth and Ashtrim. At Carthage the
female consort of Baal was termed Pene-Baal, "the face" or
"reflection of Baal."
III. Baal-Worship:
In the earlier days of Hebrew history the title Baal, or "Lord," was
applied to the national God of Israel, a usage which was revived in
later times, and is familiar to us in the King James Version. Hence
both Jonathan and David had sons called Merib-baal (1Ch 8:31;
9:40) and Beeliada (1Ch 14:7). After the time of Ahab, however,
the name became associated with the worship and rites of the
Phoenician deity introduced into Samaria by Jezebel, and its
idolatrous associations accordingly caused it to fall into disrepute.
Hosea 2:16 declares that henceforth the God of Israel should no
longer be called Baali, "my Baal," and personal names like Esh-
baal (1Ch 8:33; 9:39), and Beelinda into which it entered were
changed in form, Baal being turned into bosheth which in Heb at
any rate conveyed the sense of "shame."
IV. Temples, etc.:
Temples of Baal at Samaria and Jerusalem are mentioned in 1Ki
1:18; where they had been erected at the time when the Ahab
dynasty endeavored to fuse Israelites and Jews and Phoenicians
into a single people under the same national Phoenician god. Altars
on which incense was burned to Baal were set up in all the streets
of Jerusalem according to Jeremiah (11:13), apparently on the flat
roofs of the houses (Jer 32:29); and the temple of Baal contained
an image of the god in the shape of a pillar or Bethel (2Ki
10:26,27). In the reign of Ahab, Baal was served in Israel by 450
priests (1Ki 18:19), as well as by prophets (2Ki 10:19), and his
worshippers wore special vestments when his ritual was performed
(2Ki 10:22). The ordinary offering made to the god consisted of
incense (Jer 7:9) and burnt sacrifices; on extraordinary occasions
the victim was human (Jer 19:5). At times the priests worked
themselves into a state of ecstasy, and dancing round the altar
slashed themselves with knives (1Ki 18:26,28), like certain dervish
orders in modern Islam.
V. Use of the Name.
In accordance with its signification the name of Baal is generally
used with the definite art.; in the Septuagint this often takes the
feminine form, aischane "shame" being intended to be read. We
find the same usage in Ro 11:4. The feminine counterpart of Baal
was Baalah or Baalath which is found in a good many of the local
names (see Baethgen, Beltrage zur semitischen
Religionsgeschichte, 1888).
VI. Forms of Baal.
1. Baal-berith:
Now what say the BIBLE
Hosea Chapter 2
16 “And it shall be, in that day,” declares ‫יהוה‬, “that you call Me
‘My Husband,’ and no longer call Me ‘My Ba‛al.’ 17 “And I shall
remove the names of the Ba‛als from her mouth, and they shall no
more be remembered by their name. 18 “And in that day I shall
make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the
birds of the heavens, and with the creeping creatures of the ground,
when bow, and sword, and battle I break from the earth. And I shall
make them lie down in safety. 19 “And I shall take you as a bride
unto Me forever, and take you as a bride unto Me in righteousness,
and in right-ruling, and kindness and compassion. 20 “And I shall
take you as a bride unto Me in trustworthiness, and you shall know
21 .‫“ יהוה‬And it shall be in that day that I answer,” declares ‫יהוה‬,

“that I answer the heavens, and they answer the earth, 22 and the
earth answer the grain and the new wine and the oil, and they
answer Yizre‛ĕl. 23 “And I shall sow her for Myself in the earth, and
I shall have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion.
And I shall say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My
people,’ while they say, ‘My Elohim!’ ”
Jeremiah Chapter12
16 “And it shall be, if they learn well the ways of My people, to

swear by My Name, ‘As ‫ יהוה‬lives,’ as they taught My people to

swear by Ba‛al, then they shall be established in the midst of My
people. 17 “But if they do not obey, I shall pluck up, pluck up and
destroy that nation,” declares ‫יהוה‬.
Jeremiah Chapter 2
1 And the word of ‫ יהוה‬came to me, saying, 2 “Go, and you shall cry

in the hearing of Yerushalayim, saying, ‘Thus said ‫יהוה‬, “I

remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your
bridehood, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land
that was not sown. 3 “Yisra’ĕl was set-apart to ‫יהוה‬, the first-fruits
of His increase. All who ate of it became guilty – evil came upon
them,” declares 4 “ ‘.‫ יהוה‬Hear the word of ‫יהוה‬, O house of Ya‛aqoḇ
and all the clans of the house of Yisra’ĕl. 5 Thus said ‫יהוה‬, “What
unrighteousness have your fathers found in Me, that they have
gone far from Me, and went after worthlessness, and became
worthless? 6 “And did not they say, ‘Where is ‫יהוה‬, who brought us
up out of the land of Mitsrayim, who led us through the wilderness,
through a land of deserts and pits, through a land of drought and
the shadow of death, a land that no one passed through and where
no one dwelt?’ 7 “Then I brought you into a garden land, to eat its
fruit and its goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land
and made My inheritance an abomination. 8 “The priests did not
say, ‘Where is ‫ ’?יהוה‬And those who handle the Torah did not know
Me, and the shepherds1 transgressed against Me, and the prophets
prophesied by Ba‛al, and walked after matters that did not profit. 9
“Therefore I still contend with you,” declares ‫יהוה‬, “and with your
children’s children I contend. 10 “For, pass beyond the isles of
Kittim and see, and send to Qĕdar ̱ and observe well, and see if
there has been any like this. 11 “Has a nation changed its mighty
ones, which are not mighty ones? But My people have changed My
esteem1 for that which does not profit. 12 “Be amazed, O heavens,
at this, and be frightened, be utterly dried up,” declares 13 .‫“ יהוה‬For
My people have done two evils: they have forsaken Me, the
fountain of living waters1, to hew out for themselves cisterns,
cracked cisterns, which do not hold water. 14 “Is Yisra’ĕl a servant?
Was he born in the house? Why is he given to plunder? 15 “The
young lions roared at him, they growled, and made his land waste;
his cities have been burned, without inhabitant. 16 “Even the sons of
Noph and of Taḥpanḥes have shaven the crown of your head. 17
“Have you not done this to yourself, by forsaking ‫ יהוה‬your Elohim
when He led you in the way? 18 “And now why take the way to
Mitsrayim, to drink the waters of Shiḥor? Or why take the way to
Ashshur, to drink the waters of the River? 19 “Your own evil
instructs you, and your backslidings reprove you. Know therefore
and see that it is evil and bitter that you have forsaken ‫ יהוה‬your
Elohim, and that My fear is not in you,” declares the Master ‫ יהוה‬of
hosts.
Jeremiah Chapter 10:21
For the shepherds have become brutish, and they have not sought
‫יהוה‬. Therefore they did not understand, and all their flock
scattered.”
MalachiChapter 2
1 “And now, O priests, this command is for you. 2 “If you do not

hear, and if you do not take it to heart, to give esteem to My

Name,” said ‫ יהוה‬of hosts, “I shall send a curse upon you, and I
shall curse your blessings. And indeed, I have cursed them,
because you do not take it to heart. 3 “See, I shall rebuke your seed,
and scatter dung before your faces, the dung of your festivals. And
you shall be taken away with it. 4 “And you shall know that I have
sent this command to you, as being My covenant with Lĕwi,” said
‫ יהוה‬of hosts. 5 “My covenant with him was life and peace, and I
gave them to him, to fear. And he feared Me, and stood in awe of
My Name. 6 “The Torah of truth1 was in his mouth, and
unrighteousness was not found on his lips. He walked with Me in
peace and straightness, and turned many away from crookedness. 7
“For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and they seek the
Torah from his mouth, for he is the messenger of ‫ יהוה‬of hosts. 8
“But you, you have turned from the way, you have caused many to
stumble in the Torah. You have corrupted the covenant of Lĕwi,”
said ‫ יהוה‬of hosts. 9 “And I also, I shall make you despised and low
before all the people, because you are not guarding My ways, and
are showing partiality in the Torah.” 10 Have we not all one Father?
Did not one Ěl create us? Why do we act treacherously against one
another, to profane the covenant of the fathers?

My good friend Agur has a question for us,
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man
spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal, Surely I am more
brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. I
neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
Proverbs 30:1-10
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath
gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a
garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is
His name, and what is his Son's name, if thou canst tell? Every
word of Elohim is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust
in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou
be found a liar.
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor
riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and
deny thee, and say, Who is Yahweh? or lest I be poor, and steal,
and take the name of my Elohim in vain.
Agur seems to be concerned with the name of Yahweh, his Son,
and taking the Name of the Father in vain, he seems to think
some one may have lied and added to the word of the Almighty.
So, let's look into the commandments and see if we can find out
what these vanities and lies are he speaks of removing for from
him.
Exodus 20:1-17
And Elohim spake all these words, saying, I am Yahweh thy
Elohim, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of
the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other elohim before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness
of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath,
or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down
thyself to them, nor serve them: for I Yahweh thy Elohim am a
jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep
my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh thy
Elohim in vain; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless that taketh
his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six
days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is
the sabbath of Yahweh thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any
work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy
maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy
gates: For in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, the sea, and
all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yahweh
blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon
the land which Yahweh thy Elohim giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt
not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet
thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife,
nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass,
nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Lets look a little deeper into these verse the world calls the Third
Commendment( funny Yahushua the Messiah said there were
really only two Commendments. "Love Yahweh with all your
being and Love your neighbor as yourself" but moving on)
Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh thy Elohim in vain; for
Yahweh will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

so we see if we Love Yahweh we must not make nothing of His
Name! We must exalt the name of Yahweh
Exodus 33:19-34:17
And he(Moshes) said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. And He
said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will
proclaim the name of Yahweh before thee; and will be gracious to
whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will
show mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there
shall no man see me, and live. And Yahweh said, Behold, there is a
place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to
pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the
rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will
take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my
face shall not be seen.
And Yahweh said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like
unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that
were in the first tables, which thou brakest. And be ready in the
morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and
present thyself there to me in the top of the mount. And no man
shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all
the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.
And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses
rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as
Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables
of stone.
And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and
proclaimed the name of Yahweh. And Yahweh passed by before
him, and proclaimed, Yahweh, Yahweh, an El merciful and
gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression
and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's
children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses
made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.
And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Yahweh, let
Yahweh, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people;
and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine
inheritance.
And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I
will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in
any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the
work of Yahweh: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.
Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive
out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and
the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Take heed to thyself,
lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither
thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: But ye shall
destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:
For thou shalt worship no other elohim: for Yahweh, whose name
is Jealous, is a jealous Elohim: Lest thou make a covenant with the
inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their elohims,
and do sacrifice unto their elohim, and one call thee, and thou eat
of his sacrifice; And thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and
their daughters go a whoring after their elohims, and make thy sons
go a whoring after their elohim. Thou shalt make thee no molten
elohim.
Exodus 23:13
And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and
make no mention of the name of other elohims, neither let it be
heard out of thy mouth.
Joshua 23:7-11
That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among
you; neither make mention of the name of their elohim, nor cause
to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto
them: But cleave unto Yahweh your Elohim, as ye have done unto
this day. For Yahweh hath driven out from before you great nations
and strong: but as for you, no man hath been able to stand before
you unto this day. One man of you shall chase a thousand: for
Yahweh your Elohim, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath
promised you. Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye
love Yahweh your Elohim.
If we Love Yahweh we will never even speak the name of the
mighty ones of the World around us!
Deuteronomy 12:2-4
Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye
shall possess served their elohim, upon the high mountains, and
upon the hills, and under every green tree: And ye shall overthrow
their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire;
and ye shall hew down the graven images of their elohim, and
destroy the names of them out of that place. Ye shall not do so unto
Yahweh your Elohim.
This must be done Spiritually in todays world we can do this by
declaring Yahweh's truth's to the world for his word is the 'Sword
of Spirit" with it false mighty ones are destroyed and heart's are
returned to their true Father.
We must let the light we are given shine forth for all to follow.
Matthew 5:15
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Luke 8:16-18
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel,
or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they
which enter in may see the light. For nothing is secret, that shall
not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be
known and come abroad. Take heed therefore how ye hear: for
whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not,
from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
Luke 11:33-35
No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place,
neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come
in may see the light. The light of the body is the eye: therefore
when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but
when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed
therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy
whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the
whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle
doth give thee light.

Exhaustive Concordance of The Bible, if you read chapter 65 it is
very clear that this chapter speaks of the Last Days not some time
long ago, so lets dive deeper into this important subject a little
deeper and see what Isaiah was warning us about, please remember
2 Tim. 3:16,17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of Elohim,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of Yahweh may be

So we see according to Strongs this verse reads "But ye are they

that forsake Yahweh, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a
table for (G_d), and that furnish the drink offering unto that
number."
Gad: Apart from Gad, the son of Ya'aqob, there was another "Gad."
The astrologers of Babel called Jupiter(Zeus) by the name "Gad."
He was also well known among the Cannaanites ( the kenan'anites)
where his name was often coupled with Ba'al, Ba'al Gad, which
according to the Massoretic vowel pointing in the Book of
Yehoshua is pronounced: Ba'al God. This same name is discovered
in ancient Germanic languages as Gott, Goda, Gode, God, Gud,
Gade. And searching further back into its Indo-Germanic (Indo-
European) roots, we find that it traces back to the word GHODH,
which means "union," even "sexual union." No wonder this
meaning is still evident in the Dutch and German gade. It is also
not difficult to see it in the English "gadfly" and gadding about" *
But ye are they that forsake Yahweh, that prepare a table for that troop(G_d), and that furnish the drink offering
unto that number

WOW to forsake YAHWEH OUR ELOHIM and Turn to another, even preparing a table for him, just makes
one sick to think about.

These verses speak of preparing a Table and a drink offering for

G_d, ask yourself what table is prepared for G_d and what drink
offering and the answer comes back quickly, if you've ever been to
cummunion service at a Christian or Cathlic Church.
You may not be awear that The Hebrews of Old never used the
name G_d for The Almighty but El or Elohim, which means
Mighty or Mighty One(s) ( It is worth noting that according to The
History Channels Digging for the Truth the first written words that
can be found are the words "Help me EL" written on a cave wall
were the Hebrews were slaves)considering Yahweh's command "
And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and
make no mention of the name of other elohim, neither let it be
heard out of thy mouth." I believe Yahweh people must refuse to
use pagan names for our Mighty One(s) we must let go of the
traditions of our fathers and choice to serve Yahweh in truth and
Love, learning to fear his name.

El, Eloah, Elohim, Elahin, Elyon:

El: Mighty One, Strength

Eloah: Singular form of Elohim, has same meaning as El.

Elohim: Plural of Eloah, Rulers, Messengers.

Elyon, El Elyon: The Most High El.

Hebrew Aramaiac

Eloah Elah

Elyon Illaya

Elohim Elahin

Other languages: Ugaritic: "Il", plural: "Ilm"; Phoenician: "l" Plural: "lm."

The word "El" is a very ancient Semitic term. Among Semitic

languages it is one of the most used terms for greatness, strength or
deity. In Hebrew religious usage it does not denote a proper name
but is used as a title. Used for the Creator's superiority over all
others, as a generic term in Daniel 11:36 "...the El of elahin..." El,
Eloah, Elohim is used to refer to the Creator, but also applied to
rulers, messengers, and persons. (Referring to Mosheh in
Shemonth 4:16, "And it shall be that he shall be a mouth for you,
and you shall be an elohim for him.") Also Teh. 82:1 Elyon is
tramslated as Most High. Used in Tehillim 7:17 " And praise the
Name of Yahweh (Elyon) Most High." The term "Eli" (my El) used
by Messiah in the Messianic Writings in Mark 15:34 " Eli, Eli,
lamah shebeqtani." *

Here is what the English Bible says in the Introdution section

"This personal proper name, written consonants YHWH, was

considered too sacred to be utterd: so the vowels for the words 'my
Lord' or 'God' were added to the consonants YHWH, and the
reader was warned by these vowels that he must substitute other
consonants. This change having to be made so frequentlt, the
Rabbis did not consider it necessary to put the consonants of the
new reading in the margin. In course of time the true pronunciation
of the divine name, probably Yahweh, passed into oblivion, and
YHWH was read with the intruded vowels, the vowels of entirely
different word, namely 'my Lord'or 'God'. In late medieval times
this mispronunciation became current as Jehova, and it was taken
over as Jehovah by the Reformers in Protestant Bibles. The present
translators have retained this incorrect but customary form in the
text of passages where the name is explained with a note on its
pronunciation (e.g Exodus 3:15) and in four placenames of which
it form a constituent element; elsewhere they have followed
ancient translators in substituting 'LORD' or GOD', printed as here
in capital letters, for the Hebrew name." *2
Matthew 15:3,7
Why do ye also transgress the commandment of Elohim by your

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth

Malachi 2:1-10

And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not

hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name,
saith Yahweh of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will
curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye
do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread
dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and
one shall take you away with it. And ye shall know that I have sent
this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi,
saith Yahweh of hosts. My covenant was with him of life and
peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me,
and was afraid before my name. The law of truth was in his mouth,
and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace
and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. For the priest's
lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his
mouth: for he is the messenger of Yahweh of hosts. But ye are
departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the
law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith Yahweh of
hosts. Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base
before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but
have been partial in the law.
Have we not all one father? hath not one Elohim created us? why
do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by
profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Psalms 68:4

Sing unto Elohim, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name YAH, and

Isaiah 42:8-10

I am Yahweh: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to

things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they
spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto Yahweh a new song, and
his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and
all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
Exodus 3

Moses said unto Elohim , Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh,

and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token
unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the
people out of Egypt, ye shall serve Elohim upon this mountain.
And Moses said unto Elohim , Behold, when I come unto the
children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The Elohim of your
fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his
name? what shall I say unto them? And Elohim said unto Moses, I
AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the
children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. And Elohim said
moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of
Israel, Yahweh Elohim of your fathers, the Elohim of Abraham, the
Elohim of Isaac, and the Elohim of Jacob, hath sent me unto you:
this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all
generations.
Deuteronomy 32:1-6

Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the
words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech
shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and
as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of
Yahweh: ascribe ye greatness unto our Elohim. He is the Rock, his
work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a El of truth and
without iniquity, just and right is he. They have corrupted
themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a
perverse and crooked generation. Do ye thus requite Yahweh, O
foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought
thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
Matthew 15:3,7

Why do ye also transgress the commandment of Elohim by your

tradition? Ye hypocrites, well did EliYah prophesy of you, saying,
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth
me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they
do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

So we have answered Agur's question, as to What is his name for truely He speaks of Yahweh, our El.

Therefore exalt his name dear friend!

But wait, what of his Sons name?

Surely we know His Sons name,

or do we?

Is it Jesus?

Zechariah 3

And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel
of Yahweh, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2And
Yahweh said unto Satan, Yahweh rebuke thee, O Satan; even
Yahweh that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand
plucked out of the fire? 3Now Joshua was clothed with filthy
garments, and stood before the angel. 4And he answered and spake
unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy
garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused
thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change
of raiment. 5And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So
they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments.
And the angel of Yahweh stood by. 6And the angel of Yahweh
protested unto Joshua, saying, 7Thus saith Yahweh of hosts; If thou
wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou
shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will
give thee places to walk among these that stand by.
Sure seems like Zechariah thought his name was Joshua,

together you have Yahshua or Yahweh saves

Matthew 1:21-23

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
Yahshua: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this
was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of Yahweh
by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and
shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,
which being interpreted is, El with us
So where did this name Jesus come from?
Jesus: Consider Iesous, rendered as "Jesus" in English versions up
to now. For example the authoritative Greek-English Lexicon of
Liddell & Scott, under Iaso: the Greek goddess of healing reveals
that the name Iaso is Ieso in the Ionic dialect of the greeks, Iesous
being the contracted genitive form! In David Kravitz, Dictionary of
Greek and Roman Mythology, we found a similar form, namely
Iasus. There were four different Greek deities with the name
Iesous, and Dr.Bullinger, in The Apocalypse, p.396, says Ies was
part of the name of Bacchus! Also see Come out of her, My people,
by C.J. Koster.*

and I will cut off man from off the land, saith Yahweh. I will also

And them that are turned back from Yahweh; and those that have

Jeremiah 23:23-27

Am I a Elohim at hand, saith Yahweh, and not a Elohim afar off?

Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith
Yahweh. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith Yahweh. I have heard
what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I
have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart
of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the
deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget
my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his
neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
Baal: This word seems, gradually became a proper name. A similar
Semitic word derives from the Aryan root Bhal, which means "to
shine" according to some. According to W.H. Roscher's well
known lexicon of mythology, Ba'al (bel, Belos) was the ancestral
and national deity of the Shemites, and says that Ba'al(Bel, Belos)
was the founder of Babel (Babylon), according to secular history.
He is identified with Zeus, Jupiter, Ammon, Asshur, Assur, Kronos,
and Bel-Marduk. Morris Jastrow, Max Muller, and W.H. Roscher
all three agree: Ba'al is the Babylonian sun-deity. The Ba'als of the
nations were sun-deities, and Baa'al worship means sun worship.*

Romans 11

maketh intercession to Elohim against Israel, saying, Yahweh ,
they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I
am left alone, and they seek my life. But what saith the answer of
Elohim unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men,
who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. Even so then at

Daniel12:1-4
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which

same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one
that shall be found written in the book. And many of them that
sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life,
and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be
wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that
turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou,
