INTRODUCTION TO ESSAY ASSIGNMENT:

This written assignment will be investigating critically on the works of Disney animator, John Lasseter. Lasseter helped introduce CGI into the world of animated films, making works and films more successful such as notably, Toy Story (1995) and shorts such as Luxo Jr (1986). The assignment will be looking specifically at Lasseter and his works Luxo Jr and Toy Story. Research sources include Jeff Lenburgs Who's who in animated cartoons: an international guide to film & television's award-winning and legendary animators (2006), a guide to famous animators, Craig Dertweilers Into the dark: seeing the sacred in the top films of the 21st century (2008) and To infinity and beyond! The story of Pixar Animation studios (2007) by Paik and Karen which gives the history of how Pixar became known as well as its early works which were developed into successful films. J.P. Telottes Animating space: from Mickey to Wall-E (2010) and Steve Roberts Character animation in 3D: use traditional drawing techniques to produce stunning CGI animation (2004) both explains about the basics of CGI animation as well as how the animation begins from paper to 3D model. The assignment will begin by introducing Lasseter and a little history of how Pixar was made bfore mentioning how Lasseter brought CGI animation into Disney films. Later the assignment will look at how CGI was introduced and made in Toy Story and Luxo Jnr.
