Collect various types of washing solutions from various sources. Identify whether the washing solution is a soap or detergent by dissolving it in hard water ( dissolve calcium chloride in tap water ). Smell the soaps identified.

1. What have you learnt from this activity? From this activity, I had learnt more about the type of chemicals contain in the consumer products. Before doing this activity, I do not aware about the existence of these chemicals in my daily product. I do not care what are the ingredients in the product that I using. But now I know that there a lot of chemicals in that. During this activity, I have to list out all the chemicals in the product according to 3 types; alcohols, ether and amines.

make use of the old and unused paper. Before doing this project, I do not really care about uses of the old unused paper. For the unused paper, Im just throwing it away and burn it. But now I know that there a lot of things can we do by using this paper. This paper can be use to make a recycled paper craft. There are a few of steps to make up this craft. All of the procedures is easily to follow and do not take a long time. This activity also does not need a lot of money and I can say that it is zero in cost. We just need a few unused paper, water and gum. All of this material we can get it easily. Form the old and unused paper, we can make it a beautiful things by our own effort and creativity. Can you imagine that from this paper we can build up a small model of house, mug, basket, stationary holder and so on. We always buy this entire thing with a lot of money, by doing recycled craft we can just save our money. By doing recycling paper, we actually protecting out surrounding from pollution and also protect our tree from being cutting down. For paper making process, we need a lot of tree to be cutting down. Recycle can reduce pollution, saving the cost of uses of electricity and protect our world.

2. Which part of the primary science curriculum teaches this particular topic? Year : Science Year 3 Topic : Mixing Substance Learning objectives :pupils learn that that some substances are unsafe and should be handled with care. Learning outcome :

identify labels for unsafe substances


explain the meaning of the labels list unsafe substances state the need to look at labels or ask an adult before touching or tasting any substance

list the harm caused by unsafe substances.

3. Discuss how you can use this activity in your teaching and learning ?

In teaching science, some of the topic teacher need to show the real object to the students. So students can easily understand the topic.

In year 3 for the topic mixing substance, as a teacher I can start the lesson by bringing some of the household substances such as detergent, bleaching agent and medicine. Then I will ask students to form a group in 3 or 4 members in a group. Then to each group I will give them one examples of household substances. They need to look at the labels at the substances. Then they will list out all the labels they found. From the list, I will help them to categorized it to safe and unsafe substances. After that, I will tell the class that they will learn about unsafe substances and they way to handle it. From the list of unsafe substances, I will discuss with the effect of unsafe substance. It will be categorized it to effects of touching, smelling and testing.

Next, I will let my students to watch a video on how unsafe substances cause harm..Then I will make a discussion and ask their opinion about how these unsafe substances should be handled. They will list out the way to handle it. At the end of the lesson they will know about unsafe substance, effects and the way to handle it. This activity helps them to understand this topic and can apply it in daily life.

4. What is the role of the teacher in this activity ? The role of teacher in this activity is being facilitator and guider. Teacher will be responsible to make a student understand the topic better. Teacher also must prepare an interesting and good example. This example can be help student to explore it well and help them to know about this topic better. Besides that, teacher also must give students opportunity to find the information by themselves. Teacher should just provide the example and let the

student think by themselves. This way will help them to remember the lesson and easily understand it.
