Interested Parties Jefrey Pollock & Joe Hickerson PA 12 Primary Poll Results: Critz Narrows Altmires Lead March 26, 2012

The results of our survey in the Democratic primary for Congress in Pennsylvanias 12th Congressional District show Mark Critz narrowing Jason Altmires lead as the race heads into its final month.

Mark Critz now trails Jason Altmire by just 7 points, 45% to 38% a narrowing of the 10point gap found in our February survey of Democratic primary voters in the district. Critzs base is more unified than Altmires. Critz leads 70% to 18% among voters in his old district, while Altmire leads 61% to 19% among voters that live in the former 4th Congressional District. Critz continues to dominate in the Johnstown-Altoona media market, leading 80% to 9%. Critz is now familiar to nearly two-thirds of primary voters, and nearly half have a favorable opinion (47% favorable/16% unfavorable) an 8-point increase in his favorable rating. Altmire continues to have higher familiarity (56% favorable/19% unfavorable), but his favorable rating increased by just 4-points in the past month and half.

This memorandum summarizes the results from a telephone poll of 400 randomly selected likely Democratic primary voters in Pennsylvanias 12th Congressional District conducted March 22-25, 2012. The margin of error associated with the sample of 400 is 4.9% at the 95% confidence level. This means that in 95 of 100 cases, the results of this poll are within plus or minus 4.9 points of the results that would have been obtained if all likely voters had been interviewed. Note that special care was taken to ensure the geographic and demographic divisions of the actual electorate are properly represented.
