1. (a) Find the solution of the dierential equation dy = y 2 sin x dx satisfying y(0) = 1. (b) Find the general solution of the dierential equation dy + 2xy = 5x. dx [20 marks]

2. (a) Let f (x, y) = x2 y + xy 2 . Find the partial derivatives fx , fy and fxy . (b) Let f (x, y) = x2 y 3 . Use linear approximation to estimate the value of f (0.998, 2.001). (c) Find the stationary points of the function f (x, y) = x2 3y + y 3 and determine their nature. [20 marks]

3. (a) Find the equation of the tangent plane to the surface 2x2 + 3y 2 + yz 2z 2 = 11 at the point (2, 1, 0). (b) Let f (x, y, z) = x2 y + y 2 z 3 . Find the directional derivative of f at the point (1, 1, 1) in the direction (2, 2, 3). (c) Find the equation of the tangent to the curve x = t2 , y = t2 t, z = t3 at the point (9, 6, 27). 4. (a) Evaluate
