Attitudes toward women as managers: sex vs culture A-Mark Cordano Robert F Sherer Crystal L Owen

Women should present themselves as feminine, be it relationships or business as men want to deal with a female & not a masculine female This is totally against feminism. The author does not believe in this concept and considers it hypocrite. The world has accepted feminism but still widespread inequality is there and women are not treated fairly. They have to face problems at every step. Men think about their female colleagues is that the women they work with seem to exhibit low self-confidence. They are overly modest, not asking, blending in, and remaining silent. Career momentum for women is not about adding job skills but about changing everyday thinking and behaviors Today many young women are themselves against feminism; the possible reason could be that they are not included where people talk about their interest. So, there might be another feminist movement. The author runs a business and loves being a woman but people doubt her capabilities and underestimate her. They even question her husband about her social standing & cant accept the way she is. People understand the importance of women but still underestimate their capabilities & dont train them well. They fret over women at each & every chance they get. Its important to realize their importance & utilize their talent. It is important to understand the attitude of host people when women are assigned global assignments. Their can be negative attitude exhibited by males but women must understand this & then accept their

roles& appreciation of their abilities. Three sides of the women have been presented. Firstly, Feminists envisioned that women will educate themselves, pick a career path, and eliminate their dependencies on men. Secondly, they should not be subservient to men, and not live their lives as sexual objects, was a wave created by the media and entertainment industry.Thirdly a phase where the society has proclaimed freedom from prejudice against women Mentoring can yield both career developmental outcomes such as salary increases and promotion as well as counseling and friendship. Mentoring relationship is the most important & can even pave the way for learning & growth. Arab women can begin to create sustainable emancipatory movement that maintains legitimacy within both Islamic principles and the cultural norms while still advancing the opportunities to find new ways of thinking that benefit women. Women as managers are underutilized in corporate India. To advance women in managerial roles, support by top management is essential. Promoting diverse management practices and opening doors to women in managementthrough proactive human resource policies and programs can be useful in expanding their talent pool and, ultimately, their leadership pipeline. womens education and participation in the workforce in India has increased but women making to the top are very few. There is a lot of stereotyping in the society & they have to look after their families too which reduces their growth opportunities in career. There is verifiable evidence that women in greater than token proportions improve

decision-making, improve shareholder value, better in investing and lower risktaking. Women have proved their talent & are outperforming males. They are considered trendsetters today. Women are less at the top because they dont want a man to be their boss and issue orders.

Too Much Testosterone on Wall Street?

Its been said that men are better at finance & hence are able to make more profits but the high ratio of women in top management have shown better resistance to the financial crisis in recent studies. Women might have little leadership roles & wealth but they are empowered. They are saviors of the world, power consumers & to hve change they should have more access to capital. Managers at top arent increasing. Lot of barriers exist for them but women should find opportunities, prioritize their life and work as much as possible & leave scope to come back if they cant work any longer. For the last almost 50 years, girls have faced same issues. They are apprehensive about the environment in which they live. They are sexualized at every level & their body is considered more important than their brain. But, they must have real power-- the power to make decisions, to create change and lead. The article tells about the authors experiences when she enters JP Morgan for the first time. Most of the crowd consisted of men and nobody of them was ready to help her.But she learns to behave in the given environment as an intern.

Can ernst & young retain women by rethinking work? By Keith H. Hammonds in New York, with Gabrielle Saveri in San Jose, Calif.

The International Women Count Network (IWCN) grassroots delegation to the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing succeeded in getting governments to agree to measure and value unwaged work. This issue is important to all women because for the first time there would be a true measure of what it really takes for a society to function. The author says women managers have a lot of workload.most of their time is consumed in business travelling.they are not able to give time to their family and friends prohibiting them to have any social life,so E&Y has to rethimk their work strategy.

Death Of A Salesman Vs. Fifth Business, Feminist Perspective Comparative Essay Fifth Business by Roberson Davies and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

A woman's place is in her own business By David Woodruff In Leipzig

Even though women constitute 40% of all executives and administrative posts(up from 24% in 1976),they are still restricted mostly to the middle and lower positions, and the senior levels of management are almost entirely male domainsHowever, many women hesitate to speak out, fearing it will jeopardize their careers. In conclusion, many women have been discouraged from going to the top by a set of myths suggesting women are not suited for top management and that any problems are being solved gradually. Through the comparison of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fifth Business by Robertson Davies the contrasts between both works are explored from the feminist perspective. The status of woman in the early and mid nineteen hundreds is reflected by the lifestyles of Dunstans mother Mrs. Ramsey and Linda Loman. Dunstans and Happys attitude and the ways in which they care for the woman they have been intimate with throughout their lives. After Berlin Wall fell, many women jumped into entrepreneurship and did quite well. They were able to extend their business although as always male believed that women are not as efficient as them but the trend continues.

As executives or business owners, women tend to run their businesses differently than men. A womans approach to business ownership lies in the way a woman understands business ownership. When you own a business, no matter what that business is, you are automatically in the people business. It is this approach that gives the woman entrepreneur a key

competitive advantage. When it comes to people skills and communication, a woman intuitively knows that while it only takes one person to start some

Business, Management, Glass Ceiling www.echeat.com

The times have changed; one notices an increase in the number of women who have taken to work, across sectors on a global scale. Yet despite their pursuit of high standards of education and vocational skills, they are still lagging behind in the corporate world, the reason being discrimination. Discrimination against women at work has different facets, unequal pay, undermined skill set, segregation in certain sectors and jobs, work and home balance and sexual harassment are some of the issues. Although in current times there are still a large sum of cases of discrimination and unjust treatment towards women, the start to this epidemic ranges many decades back. Glass Ceilings Unfortunately, in 2007, women and minorities are still confronted with the idea of the glass ceiling or glass cliff in corporate America. The term glass ceiling refers to situations where the upward advancement of an individual in the workplace is limited; this is usually based on gender or race . This type of drawback is not immediately apparent and is an unwritten and unofficial policy. It is apparent that this type of discriminatory management is in full swing at many companies.
