1.0 TASK 2 : WRITING

Some people believe that having a university education is important in todays society. Give your opinion and write an expository essay about 400-500 words. What most parents tell their children from the moment they set foot at school is that they should study hard in order to get into university when they grow older. That makes kids assume that University will be the key to a successful career, which may eventually turn out to be a lie. There are other benefits to be earned out of a university education which won't necessarily lead to financial independence. One of the most important things people can get out of their university experience is learning about the meaning of life and further developing their character. One might think that these particular processes should have already been finalised. That's right, they should. The only thing is the educational system used in schools doesn't leave too much space for free expression and uninterrupted character development. As a direct result, people really get to know themselves only after they've left school. Not only this university education improve ones status but also added some personality modifications that found good not only for ones personal life but for social life too. This will better explained by giving an example like, that one can better judge any matter and present powerful solutions to help others. Further, mostly in companies, managers and presidents are elected on the basis of their educational level rather than experience. A lower level worked for many years but can never ever get that post in his life without higher education. One result of a good education is the ability to define a problem and formulate a solution. Society will face with a multitude of decisions and problems in their life, and a good

education will arm them with a range of tools for finding solutions. Many textbooks provide examples based in everyday life where concepts and problem solving skills can be applied to help us make decisions and draw conclusions. If we aren't armed with the ability to problem solve, then we must rely on others to do so. Solving problems ourselves helps make us stronger individuals, whereas relying on others simply makes us a dependent. This may seem like a strange term to use when discussing why we should get a university education but this it is perhaps the best insurance we can find as far as employability goes. Having a university degree gives a competitive edge over those who do not. In many cases we will find that education is beginning to trump experience as employers are seeking workers with more rounded skills rather than those with very specific skills. In a nutshell, there are many alternatives available for receiving an education these days, which is good news for those who have not yet managed to obtain a four-year college degree. Truthfully, that degree is the difference in literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime than not having a degree. ( 500 words )

2.0 REFLECTION

As a student from semester one for Music (PISMP), we are required to do a short coursework for English Language Proficiency subject. We have two tasks to be completed. The first task is we are required to answer a short test that consists of reading comprehension and grammar items. Meanwhile for the second task, we have to write an expository essay on the topics given. The coursework given is quite difficult and I will face a hard time in doing it if I do not understand and explore the topic chosen well enough. With the help and also guidance from our dedicated lecturer, I manage to complete this task. Since the coursework for this subject was given a week before semester break, my friend and I have a very limited time to discuss and see our lecturer for collaboration session. At the same time, we also have coursework for other subjects and we need to do a preparation for School-Based Experience. Although it is quite depressing for me as I need to concentrate on a few coursework at the same time, but I still try my best to complete the coursework properly. I also realize that as a student, I have to manage my time well and I have to remember that every work is important. I cannot focus on one thing only. So that is why I have to face whatever things happen. However, I realize that the act of accomplishing this short coursework not only for academic itself, but it is also an opportunity for me and the other students to do our revision implicitly. Ultimately, this short coursework really helps me in gaining new knowledge regarding English Language. I am looking forward to produce a better product next time.
