LESSON PLAN IN ORAL COMMUNICATION IN CONTEXT

GRADE 11 SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

I. Objectives: At the end of the session, the learners shall be able to:
1. identify the principles of effective speech delivery focusing on stage presence, facial
expression, gestures, movements, and rapport with the audience. (EN11/12OC-IIcj-26.3-26.5)
2. reflect on the importance of the principles of delivery by watching videos from YouTube about
speech delivery. (create a reflexive piece or output using an ICT tool, platform, or application
of choice on the learning experience undergone during the semester – Teaching Across E Tech
2nd Qtr 8th Week.)

III. Procedure:
A. Pre-Activity:

1. Review: Recall the principles of effective speech writing.

2. Motivation:
Video Comparison. Show the class two different videos about speech delivery.

Questions:
a. What do the videos show us?
b. If you are a part of the audience in video 1, what will you feel?
c. How about being a part of the audience in video 2?
B. Activity Proper:
1. Group the class into four different groups and distribute the given activity sheets which are
based on the given videos. This will lead to the discussion about Principles of Speech
Delivery. Allot five (5) minutes to complete the activity.

Group I – Compare the speakers in the given videos in terms of their confidence. Who
between them do you think is better? Support your answer.

Group II – Which speaker can effectively show emotions on the speech they deliver? Support
your answer.

Group III – Compare the speakers’ manner of movement as they deliver their speech. Who is
better and why?

Group IV – Compare how the speakers connect with the audience. Who does the job better
and why?

2. Process and discuss the given answers once provided.


3. Supply additional information regarding the Principles of Speech Delivery.

C. Analysis:
1. How does applying the principles of speech delivery give impact to the message of speech?
2. if the principles of speech delivery are not employed, what will happen to the purpose of
your speech?

D. Abstraction:
1. Ask the learners to describe the importance of Using the Principles of Speech Delivery.
What is the importance of the principles of speech delivery and how can it be useful?
Let’s watch this video (Dananjaya Hettiarachchi - World Champion of Public Speaking 2014 -
Full Speech) and see the usefulness of these principles in speech delivery.

E. Application:
1. Reflect on yourself. Have you ever delivered a speech?
If yes, have you used all these principles when you did it? How was the impact of your
speech?
If not, will you be able to apply these principles of speech delivery? What will be your
expected results?

IV. Evaluation:
Identify what the following statements ask for. Write your answer on your answer sheet.
1. It refers to the ability to own the stage of the speaker being able to fill the space and
project his/her personality to the audience.
2. They reveal the speaker’s emotions and signal to the audience the interpretation of the
given message.
