SYDNEY ROYAL EASTER SHOW 2012 ISSUE 2

SHOWTIME!
Who takes the Freddo Frog?
Covering a duty like the Sydney Royal Easter Show every year for 40 years is about determination, endurance and most likely, a love of drama. If you dont think that sounds like an advert for The Biggest Loser, you must be wrong. With the fitness freaks that are BERT (dont take offence, you are idolised by all) and Temptation challenges at every corner, each year at the Show is like a season of that other show. There have been several recurring characters over the years, all inadvertently vying for the title of The Biggest Easter Shower (show-er). I can now exclusively reveal that none other than John Pony Ward, OIC of the Operations Support Division, is the mystery member who has attended 24 Shows. This brings John to a total coverage percentage of 60%. Just edging Pony further away from the Dome Caf is our State Nursing Officer, Michele Davidson, with a great achievement of 25 years and a total coverage percentage of 62.5%. Next to weigh in on the scales of time is Mark Compton. 26. 32. 35. The scales stop at 38 years, a remarkable total coverage percentage of 95%. And now, for the winner of the title of The Biggest Easter Shower who will take home the coveted edible Freddo Frog trophy. With a total coverage percentage of 100%, thats 40 years of attendance as a St John volunteer at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, congratulations to State Staff Officer Trevor Mayhew. Congratulations to all our members on duty this year, especially our Biggest Easter Shower Top Four.

Easter Show time that is! Keep up to date with the latest news, fun and serious debate here and online at: http://sjaanswstateops.blogspot.com.au

Media Stars!
Some of our St John members have been in the media for their efforts during the Show! Coincidentally both food related... Sven Nilsson, Superintendent of Sydney University Division, was featured in newspaper The Daily Telegraph last week. In the article one of his other passions was highlighted. Sven has been making jam for 20 years from old recipes and his tasty hobby won him 1st place in the Shows preserve section last year! Good luck this year Sven, St John N.S.W is behind you (with scones and cream)!

One of our BERT crews and State Staff Officer, Elliot Williams, are set to become Germanys newest television sensations after a film crew from the European nation caught them in action helping out a victim of the notorious Chili Eating Contest. Cant wait to see the footage and hear Elliots German voiceover!
