In hardcore mode, even with one life only, I know just what to do.

Make the world in version 1.8.9
Find a village
Mine up lots of logs and get about 20 carrots
Turn all the logs into planks and make a crafting table
Craft about 10 boats in total
Find rabbits (they should be spawning around flat areas which is everywhere)
Dig a staircase to bedrock level then a 7x7 hole
Place the boats down
Attract about 15-20 rabbits with carrots to the boat hole
You have rabbit collections now! (Rabbits are removed from Superflat in version 1.9)
Upgrade the world to version 1.13
Next gather about 2-3 stacks of dirt
Build a hole with the top covered except for the block you go in and out from and the out
Go to a blacksmith village [If the starting village is, then hopefully you get some iron ingo
Craft the iron into buckets
Get some decent foods (e.g. breads, carrots, potatoes) to not die to hunger
Fill the whole tank with steady water, not flowing water
Cover the hole so squids can start spawning
Wait for a few minutes

Now upgrade your world back to the latest version
Set place to live in your Superflat world in the blacksmith village.
