QUESTION 3- WHAT HAVE YOU

LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE

FEEDBACK?

My answer for this question looks at how we have learnt from the audience feedback and also how we responded to our audience feedback. We received a very good response overall that our music video average rating was 8/10. Here are the results in more a detail. In addition to the response to our ancillary texts.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

We asked a variety of people on what theyre thoughts on our all our ancillary texts. Many of the people we showed our products to really liked how creative they were. One person commented on how they liked the natural settings of the second magazine advert and how it fit well with the indie genre. For the first advert they had said it worked well with the video we had made as it almost represents the messed up state of mind the actor and singer is in on our video. This shows a direct link from our ancillary product to our main video which is what we strived to achieved with each one of the products that we had created. As a group we were constantly analysed and discussed the overall appearance of all our ancillary texts, especially the digipak we would make suggestions of improvements, which I would put into action to ensure we had an excellent finished product that would be attractive. When asking family and friends they were particularly impressed with the digipak, such as the colour scheme and how well it uses images of nature to develop something exciting and intriguing. I was pleased with the fact our digipak and two magazine adverts had aesthetic appeal which would attract to wide range of people/groups.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

The showcase for our music video took place on 19th April for friends and family to give us feedback on. So we took surveys from people from different age groups, musical taste and gender. We found that the showcase was very useful to finding out what others thought of our music video as a real media product and how it could be improved and what was successful. I appreciated the second opinion that wasnt anyone in our group because we were more informed of things we hadn't noticed. At the end of the showcase we divided our surveys evenly between us and recorded our results on Excel and then summarised our audience feedback on each of our blogs. I was surprised that 35% of our audience feedback listened mostly to R&B and Hip Hop, yet they still responded positively to our music video. 50% of the people listened to rock and indie music, these were who are music video target audience, but we were fortunate to have our music video received so well that we were able to appeal to a mass scale.

Our survey included the questions such as the following: Do you think the choice of setting in the video was appropriate? Most people said yes that the setting worked well with the song while one person commented how it needed to be more isolated as they were referring to the dog walker in the background scene of the shooting. However, we been shooting in a public park which we recognised the challenges of shooting those. We later went back to further improve the scene and rectified the issues of that scene with a better clips. Hannah and Radhika went through other footage taken on the day that could better replace this scene without a dog walker distracting our audience. How successful was the video in satisfying the convention of the genre? Many thought it was very successful commenting on how it used appropriate editing and characters which satisfied the conventions of our music video, while another person pointed out it was very clear that the genre of the music video. How successful is the editing? Many said that we were editing very good, one person commented that the transitions were good, which Hannah and Radhika worked and studied hard to perfect those transitions to fulfil what we had seen in other indie music video with the use od dissolve to subtle change into it next scene, or new angle.

How successful were the choice of camera angles and movements? Some said we were successful , one person commented that the angles showed different perspectives suggesting that there was a variety while another person said good angles and smooth movements, as a group we were pleased with the high level of commentary that we were receiving for the quality of our cinematography. However, one person thought we were shaky in some parts and needed to use a tripod to achieve more stability. Did the narrative of the music video suit the themes of the song overall? Some people said yes while others that were younger than 15 found it difficult to understand the story with some comments stating it was confusing. Was the narrative in the video easy to follow? The majority of people said yes to finding it easy to follow the story while another person said it makes complete sense. I know in the final weeks of filming we had not completed the storyboard but we knew we had to cover the basis of the storyline such as when and how a certain moments or situations started or what provoked the actor to kidnap and suddenly kill her. When we had music video shown to year 7s and 8s we found out that some of them found the narrative difficult to follow , which we could understand that the themes of the video are quite mature for their age, which meant are music video target was between 15-30 year olds.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

We posted our video on our YouTube Channel Radhika created, from using YouTube we could copy the link to add our video to our Facebook accounts and blogs. Many who watched our music video were impressed and entrained throughout. While at the same time received some suggestions of improvement, which we responded to and improved those areas. We found all these media technologies useful in gaining the audience feedback we needed to further improve. Our video on YouTube has nearly reach the 100 view mark, though its nothing compared to most real products we researched, it is certainly something to be proud that our video can be broadcasted to mass audience. Radhika had also posted the video onto Facebook which as you can see from the pictures people also liked the video and thought it was very well made.

CONCLUSION

Our audience feedback helped us to see problems we didnt recognise to negotiate the possibilities of improving those areas, and most of those problems were rectified and our video has massively improved.
Some problems of those problems pointed out in our feedback included comments about our actor Jonathans appearance that he's hair shouldnt be cut halfway through filming. We understood how that could be a big issue because it did throw people off, unfortunately we had no control over that. However what we shot we were very pleased with, so we didn't think we needed to reshoot this. On the other hand if were to do this again myself and my group agreed that the overall appearance should remain consistent, hair and all! We also had comments over the gun looking too fake, an individual suggested we paint the gun black to fulfil the aesthetics of a real weapon, however when the shop owner explained to us the governments concerns with the level of gun crime, therefore toy guns in shops can only be sold in red or blue. So to avoid issues with he law the gun remained blue. The final issue was with the opening of the video starts with the end, this was something we thought was a good idea and that we had seen it in a number of music videos and television shows. We could understand that it wasnt to this persons liking, but we found that others did not share in this problem therefore it was not massive issue that we had to make changes or improvements to.
