07 HOW IS IT DIFFERENT TO AN OCEAN CRUISE?

River cruisers generally carry far fewer passengers than ocean cruisers. They cruise over smaller distances so travel is at a more leisurely pace, and stopping along the banks is common. More intimate ships give you the chance to meet other travellers, and access areas on-shore where a larger group would not be able to go. While the facilities on a river cruiser are of a very high standard, there may not be the quantity found on large ocean-cruisers, and the trip is more focused on the people and places you visit.

Many meals on land All of our extended tours include breakfast daily and some lunches and dinners also, however this varies by destination, so check the inclusions for further details. Sightseeing and entrance fees Each day activities and shore excursions are planned so you can explore Asia indepth and experience the places you are travelling through. All shore excursions, led by local English-speaking guides, are included in your tour price, as well as entrance fees to any sites you visit. Entertainment On-board entertainment is included most evenings, so youll never be lost for something to do, all included in your cruise price. Return airport transfers You shouldnt have to worry about a thing while you are away, which is why all our cruise packages and extended tours include return airport transfers. Transport in air-conditioned vehicles Choosing one of our extended tours that combine a tranquil river cruise with touring on land gives you the opportunity to see even more. All land transport is provided in our airconditioned vehicles (except tuk-tuk touring) and offer comfort and safety. Local English-speaking guides Local English-speaking guides are available on-board for any questions you may have, and will accompany you on all shore excursions. When travelling on
our extended tours, our local Englishspeaking guides will accompany the group for the entire land portion of the trip. Tips and porterage Carrying cash for tips and porterage can be a hassle sometimes, which is why in Indochina weve included them in the price. Accommodation Cabins on all our river cruises are extremely comfortable, many with private balconies, and all the conveniences you would expect from a four to ve-star hotel. Lunch in a family home (included) This taste of an authentic home-cooked meal gives you a real understanding of life in Shanghais hutongs, or backstreets, when you dine with a local family in their home. Peking Duck in Beijing (not included) Your guide will take you to one of Beijings most famous Peking Duck restaurants and explain the long history of this popular dish. Dumpling Banquet in Xian (not included) Xian is considered the home of the dumpling. Enjoy a dumpling feast for all the senses. Fiery Sichuan Hotpot in Chongqing (not included) A traditional meal dating back over a thousand years. All meals on your river cruise are included. While the emphasis is on local cuisine, giving you the chance to try the best regional specialties, a range of Western options are always available. Many of the chefs on-board have been internationally trained and take pride in presenting fine dining options that draw on both local cuisine and Western influences. Meals are served in style at dedicated dining halls, but there are often private dining options available, such as breakfast on your balcony or a private dinner in the Observatory on the Jahan. Breakfast is usually buffet style, offering you a choice of English, Continental and Asian-inspired cuisine. Day 2 Immerse yourself in the ancient laneways of Hanois Old Quarter and discover the serene Temple of Literature and infamous Hanoi Hilton, and then learn about Uncle Ho at his former home and mausoleum. Day 3 Drive to Halong Bay, and board your luxury converted junk. Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch as you cruise among the soaring limestone islands. ACCOMMODATION
While the Luang Say Cruise does not have cabins on board, all tours stay overnight at the charming Luang Say Lodge, which sits majestically above the Mekong River, blending artfully into the natural environment through careful landscaping, raised platforms and indigenous styling. It features 17 large open-air pavilions, each elegantly furnished in dark-toned wood and white fabrics, and offering stunning views of the Mekong. A central riverbank restaurant is reached by wooden walkways.

ON-BOARD THE LUANG SAY

The 34 metre Luang Say cruise features comfortable seats and benches with open-air vistas. There are two bathrooms on-board and a bar for a relaxing drink. Lunch is served on the deck, surrounded by the magical sights of the Mekong.
VAT PHOU
Experience the waterways of rural Southern Laos cruising on this converted rice barge. Cabins on the Vat Phou boat are compact but smart and include private air-conditioner, fan, shower and toilet. This cruise is a wonderful way of taking in the highlight sights of the south of Laos.
DESIGN
Originally a teak wood ferry, the Vat Phou was lovingly converted in 1993 into a luxurious oating hotel. The design retains an oriental character that enables you to relax in comfort while you enjoy the everchanging river scenery pass smoothly by.
QUALITY SERVICE
The Vat Pho boasts 15 staff members and a maximum of 24 guests. This includes an on-board English-speaking guide who can help answer any questions and point out interesting sights along the way.
CABINS
The Vat Phou has 12 elegant, airconditioned cabins, each with a view over the river. Every cabin has an ensuite bathroom and is fitted with twin beds, a dressing table and a wardrobe so you can easily unpack and relax.

Settle in to your cabin before lunch on-board, then take local transportation to visit the majestic pre-Angkorian Vat Phou ruins. Enjoy the tropical sunset back on-board before dinner. Day 9 The first stop is at a rural village and mysterious hidden forest temple. Cruise southwards passing the '4,000 Islands.' Named after the ancient city of Bagan, the RV Paukan was built in 2007 at the historic Myanmar shipyards in Yangon.

Day 1 Fly from Yangon to Mandalay, where the stunning Road To Mandalay is berthed on the Irrawaddy River. Set sail on your voyage to Northern Burma. At Mingun, visit the famous Mingun bell, then enjoy a welcome dinner and get to know your fellow travellers. Day 2 Enter the first of three gorges around midday, before a walking tour at Nwe Nyein to see traditional clay pot sculpting. Later, sail past the picturesque island pagoda of Thihadaw before a cocktail party on-board. Day 3 Take an early morning stroll around the delightful village of Kyan Hnyat, where school children greet you and the morning market bustles with activity. Sail past rural villages dotted on the shore, then anchor south of the old market town of Katha, famous as the site where the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company scuttled its fleet in 1942. Day 4 Visit Katha by trishaw and visit the marketplace made famous by George Orwell in "Burmese Days". Later, explore the splendid island pagoda of Shwe Paw, just north of the town of Shwegu. Day 5 Cruise past logging camps and the old colonial village of Zinbon as green-clad mountains reach down to the narrowing river. Visit the serene Thein Pa Taung Meditation centre, before dropping anchor off Bhamo where you may take a stroll and meet the locals. Day 6 Visit Bhamo near the Chinese border in the foothills of Yunnan, taking local transport into the countryside. Day 7 In the early morning, board the train to the forest station of Naba and experience a journey into thick Kachin jungle and teak forests. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon's sailing and finish the day with a few cocktails on deck. Day 8 This morning the ship anchors off Thabeikkyin, where you will take the road that winds past a forestry reserve towards Mogok where you will meet working elephants in the Burmese teak forest. BOOKING CONDITIONS
Please read these conditions carefully as they set out the basis upon which Stella Travel Services (Australia) Pty Limited (ABN 84 003 237 296) trading as Travel Indochina (Travel Indochina, we, us, our) will accept bookings. Travel Indochina is a licensed travel agent and member of the Travel Compensation Fund, Travel Agents Licence No NSW 2TA002558. Travel Indochina includes its subsidiaries, related body corporates and associated entities. We reserve the right to amend our booking conditions. Please check our up to date booking conditions on www.travelindochina.com.au before making a booking. Brochure Validity This brochure was printed on 5 April 2012 and is valid until 31 March 2014. Please note that the content in this brochure is based on information supplied by third party suppliers and is subject to alteration with or without notice. Please check with your travel consultant about up to date prices, availability and information before making a booking. Agency and third party providers You acknowledge that: (a) we put together holiday packages and are not a tour, accommodation, transport or event provider; (b) we act as an agent only for third party providers; (c) we are not responsible for, and make no warranty or representation about, third party suppliers, their products and services or information provided in this brochure about their products and services; and (d) we do not endorse any third party products or services contained in this brochure. Many suppliers impose their own special conditions for the various products and services they offer. For example, suppliers may have rules and restrictions about the use and availability of fares, products and services, refund and cancellation policies and the limitation or exclusion of liability for death, personal injury, delay and loss or damage to baggage. Deposit and full payment A non-refundable deposit of AU$300 per person is due 5 days after issuance of an invoice. Full payment is due and payable to Travel Indochina 65 days prior to the scheduled date of departure from Australia and will be notified to you in your confirmation of booking. We are not responsible for any changes made by a supplier to the balance due date and prices are not guaranteed until payment has been made in full and documents have been processed and issued to you. Failure to pay a deposit within 5 days from the date of confirmation or in full by the due date may result in the automatic cancellation of your booking without refund of monies paid. Bookings made within 35 days of scheduled departure require full payment to request. Payment for domestic flights and regional flights in Asia must be received within 3 days of booking to avoid automatic cancellation, any amendments made once tickets have been issued may incur fees from third party providers. All bookings are subject to availability at time of booking. Our fees and charges We may charge a fee for making a booking on your behalf. You acknowledge that we may receive a commission from suppliers for bookings made on your behalf. We reserve the right to charge a 1.4% administrative fee for payments made by credit card. Prices All pricing is reflected in Australian Dollars unless otherwise specifically denoted and is valid at time of publication but is subject to change. From prices represent land only low season twin share prices (unless otherwise clearly stated). Unless otherwise stated, prices include all government levies and airport taxes as at the date of publication. Dates, itineraries and prices are indicative only. Prices herein are valid for travel for the date ranges shown. We will use our reasonable efforts to ensure the prices do not change but we may be required to impose surcharges depending on currency fluctuations, changes in government legislation, air prices, fuel surcharges or other variables outside our control. You acknowledge and agree that you shall be responsible for the prompt payment of all surcharges and price increases. Please contact your Travel consultant for up to date prices as these may be subject to change. Liability disclaimer To the maximum extent permitted by law and subject to claims available under consumer protection laws, Travel Indochina excludes all liability to any traveller (including for negligence, breach of contract or tort) of third party travel services and for any loss or damage (including personal injury) that arises directly or indirectly from the offer or supply of products or services through Travel Indochina. In circumstance where liability cannot be excluded, such liability is limited to the value of the purchased travel arrangements. Travel Indochina does not accept any liability in contract, tort or otherwise for indirect or consequential loss (including loss of revenue). Cancellation by the traveller All cancellations must be received in writing. No refunds will be made for unused services, regardless of the reason. Cancellations will be subject to the following cancellation fees applied per person, per confirmed booking. For cancellations made more than 65 days before the scheduled date for departure from Australia the deposit will be forfeited to Travel Indochina. For cancellations made between 11-65 days before the scheduled date for departure from Australia a cancellation fee of 25% of the travel and booking fee or AU$300 (whichever is the greater) will be payable. For cancellations made within 10 days of the scheduled date
of travel arrangements with Travel Indochina 100% of the travel and booking fee will be payable. Cancellation of air, cruising, rail and other third party suppliers arrangements will be subject to fees charged in accordance with that supplier. Refunds will not be given for unused or cancelled services after your arrangements have commenced. Amendments by the traveller Amendment fees are not charged unless Travel Indochina is charged by third party suppliers. Airfares cancellations & amendments: Prices do not include airfares from or to your departing destination, unless specified. All flights bookings are subject to the carriers conditions of carriage. It is your responsibility to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions that relate to your airfare and contact the relevant airline if you require further information. Cancellation and refund policies associated with airfares vary according to airfare terms and conditions and the relevant airline. It is your responsibility to contact the airline prior to departure to ensure there is no change to the scheduled departure time. We do not offer advice on Frequent Flyer eligibility on flights. Cancellation and amendments by Travel Indochina Travel Indochina reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or amend any itinerary in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. This includes alterations to cruise itineraries and schedules including change of embarkation and disembarkation points. Travel Indochina is not responsible for any other travel arrangement affected due to our cancellations. Where amendments beyond our control require us to add or amend a service/s resulting in an increased operating cost, however a surcharge may be payable by you for the additional or amended service/s. Force Majeure We will not be liable for any failure to perform our obligations including commencing a journey to the extent the failure is due to factors outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, war, fire, flooding or third party suppliers action. Small Group Journey booking conditions A separate set of booking conditions governs the operation of Small Group Journeys. Please refer to travelindochina.co.uk for these conditions, or to our separate Small Group Journeys brochure. Mekong Cruises Booking Conditions Booking forms Please be advised that all Mekong Cruises require you to complete and return a booking form prior to booking. Cruise companies have the right to refuse boarding if a completed booking form is not received. A booking form will be supplied to you by your Travel Agent or Travel Indochina consultant, or can be found online at travelindochina.com.au. Deposit and full payment A non-refundable deposit of 20% of the Mekong Cruise component of the booking is due within 5 days after issuance of an invoice. For bookings made between 66 -95 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia a 30% non-refundable deposit is due. For bookings made within 65 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia full payment is due at the time of booking. Full payment is due and payable to Travel Indochina 65 days prior to the scheduled date of departure from Australia. Cancellation and amendments by the traveller The following cancellation fees will apply to the Mekong Cruise component of the booking: Cancellations more than 95 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia the full deposit of 20% will be forfeited to Travel Indochina Cancellations 66 95 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia a cancellation fee of 30% will be payable Cancellations 36 65 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia a cancellation fee of 60% will be payable Cancellations made within 35 days before the scheduled date of departure from Australia a cancellation fee of 100% will be payable Amendment fees will be charged at the discretion of the cruise company and you may forfeit monies paid. Cancellation and amendments by Cruise Operator For cruises where occupancy is less than 5 cabins, the cruise operator reserves the right to cancel the journey 30 days prior to scheduled departure date. An alternative date or vessel will be offered if available. A confirmed cabin type can be changed more than 60 days prior to departure. Special Airfare offers Flights must be booked by Travel Indochina on an airline of our choosing. Offers cannot be combined with any other offer and may be withdrawn at any time. All offers are subject to booking class availability. Once tickets are issued, airfares are subject to cancellation & amendment fees. Savings figures shown are the maximum possible savings available. Includes air taxes of $400 per person.
Travelling with children On Mekong cruises an extra bed cannot be added and a separate cabin will be required when there are more than 2 passengers travelling including children. Travel Documents Travel documents will be issued after final payment has been received and are normally sent two weeks prior to departure. Travel documents may include special conditions including restrictions such as baggage size and weight limits. Travel documents are not transferrable. All airline tickets must be issued in the name of the passport holder and some carriers will deny carriage if the name varies and the booking may be cancelled. It is your responsibility to collect all travel documents prior to travel. Minimum booking A minimum 4 nights is required to make a booking. No airfares can be booked with Travel Indochina if less than 4 nights (6 nights in the case of some airlines) accommodation have been booked. Please check with your consultant at time of booking. Travel Insurance: Medical facilities across Asia are often unable to provide the full range of medical services that are available in developed countries, making evacuation a requirement in many non-life threatening medical situations. Regardless of the type of your holiday arrangements, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance at the time of booking. Special needs Travellers with a physical or mental disability that may require special assistance during their trip must advise us of their needs upon booking. This enables Travel Indochina to ensure the suitability of each booking to the individual traveller. Bedding configuration Requests for specific bedding types must be made at the time of booking, however cannot be guaranteed. Note that double rooms can be fitted with either double or twin beds, and note also that single rooms are often smaller than other rooms. Triple rooms usually comprise a twin bed room with an additional sofa bed, roll-away bed or a fold-away bed for a third person, and can sometimes be crowded. Travelling with children Where a child stays for free in a room sharing with two paying adults, generally the hotel will expect the child to share the parents bed and will not provide an extra bed. Additional charges may be levied for child meals. Where a child rate is provided in this brochure, an extra roll or fold-away bed is usually provided. Children are charged an adult rate if staying in a room without adults. Consumer claims We strive to ensure your arrangements are delivered smoothly, however there are times when problems arise on the ground. You should first try to resolve service problems with the provider of the service. If the problem cannot be resolved you should contact the emergency contacts provided in your detailed itinerary. If you fail to take these steps you may be affecting your recourse for a future claim. If a problem is not resolved during your journey you should send us written correspondence detailing the nature of your complaint as well as the efforts you went to resolve the problem while in Asia. Please send this correspondence to us, with supporting documentation, via your travel agent, within 30 days of the date of service delivery. We will not consider claims made after this period. Passports and visas requirements Visas, including transit visas, are the passengers own responsibility. Please check with the respective Embassy or Consulate of each country that you are travelling to. For more information regarding visa information and the latest destination travel advice please log on to: www.dfat.gov.au or www.smarttraveller.gov.au. You need to ensure that you have at least 6 months validity on your passport from the date of your departure. Health It is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of any health requirements for your travel destinations. Star ratings Star ratings are our views and not official ratings. Publicity You agree that Travel Indochina may use images of you taken during the trip without recourse to you and without compensation to you, for publicity and promotion purposes only through whatever medium it chooses. Our privacy policy You acknowledge and agree that we may disclose some or all of the personal information of you and other members of your party as outlined in our Privacy Policy available at www.travelindochina.com.au Errors & omissions - We reserve the right to correct any errors in rates or content quoted or calculated for any package, with immediate effect. We will use our reasonable endeavours to notify you of such corrections. Governing Law: The terms and conditions contained in this brochure are governed by the laws of Australia.
