This document is a prepared Thesis for the award of Msc Degree (Defence and Strategic Studies)from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. The Thesis offers a comprehensive critique of the formulation and operationalisation of the Nigeria's Defence policy under the civilian administration of Chief Obasanjo. The document explores the nuances involved in the formulation of the policy, the national security issues involved as well as risk assessment for Nigeria and Afria in the Post 9/11 World. It concludes with recommendations on how to guarantee Nigeria's national security in the future.
