Unortunately, the ocean can also harbordisease-causing agents. Ocean research oers promising new ways to predict diseaseoutbreaks and to help reduce the risks associated with waterborne diseases. By pursuingthe medical promises hidden within the ocean, while also managing the dangers to humanhealth ound in this new rontier, ocean scientists can make a major contribution to improv-ing human health in the twenty-rst century and beyond.
