Socio-economic groups

Socio-economic groups divide the population into categories that are based on their occupation/job. It is a ranking in our society in which people are divided into 6 divisions. The 6 socio-economic groups are as follows: A- Higher managerial, administrative, professional e.g. Chief executive, senior civil servant, surgeon B - Intermediate managerial, administrative, professional e.g. bank manager, teacher C1- Supervisory, clerical, junior managerial e.g. shop floor supervisor, bank clerk, sales person C2 - Skilled manual workers e.g. electrician, carpenter D- Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers e.g. assembly line worker, refuse collector, messenger E - Casual labourers, pensioners, unemployed e.g. pensioners without private pensions and anyone living on basic benefits Examining these groups, group E is classified as unemployed individuals such as students, and we believe that our short film is likely to appeal to students more than those higher up in the socio-economic groups. We feel that students will be able to understand the themes explored in our film as they are based on the circumstances of adolescents, dating and sex, as in teenage years sex and relationships first begin, so there is much speculation and infatuation with these things. We also feel group D will also relate as they are likely to also understand and relate to the short film, as groups D & E are not as sophisticated as C, B and A, therefore will identify with the narrative and the comedy which surrounds the aspect of young love and first sexual encounters. So overall a decision has been made to target groups D-E as they are likely to relate to the light-hearted comic genre of our film.
