Raised In Rock, Marcus King Releases First Solo Album 'El Dorado'

NPR's Scott Simon talks with 23-year-old guitarist about the tragic event that inspired him to start writing songs and what it was like to collaborate with The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach.
Music is "just the only thing that truly listens without ever saying a negative word back," Marcus King says. His debut album is out now.

Marcus King has rock and roll in his bones: He comes from a family of famed guitarists in Greenville, S.C. With his raspy falsetto and guitar licks, he's been hailed as a revival of B.B. King or Stevie Ray Vaughan.

But Marcus King is making a name for himself. In 2019, he joined stalwarts like and at 's Crossroads Guitar Festival. King's own festival — the Marcus King Band Family Reunion — just celebrated its third year in Black Mountain, and the 400 Unit, and, of course, two sets by the Marcus King Band.
