Whether you’re born into a prestigious cycling family and go from womb to wheels like Mathieu van der Poel, or are born too early with a brain injury and must develop a lifetime of honed muscle to be able to balance on a track bike like Sam Ruddock, it shouldn’t determine if your most impressive performances get broadcast, but it does.
