Q Does it matter if I don’t take my statin every day?

A Simva and other statins lower blood cholesterol levels and reduce ‘cardiovascular events’, including heart attacks and strokes. Cardiovascular disease means that tiny arteries to vital organs are narrowed by deposits (plaques) containing cholesterol and platelets (blood-clotting cells). These can rupture, cutting off the oxygen supply. Lowering your cholesterol can make plaques less likely to develop. Statins may also protect against plaque rupture.
