Great book! Don't let the cover turn you off, it's an incredible read. Had it in my library for a while, glad I finally got to it!!

The story and main character grew on me as I progressed and the final act was satisfying. I like her determination and general don’t-take-shit-from-anybody attitude. However, this attitude also grew tiresome when she was persistent and difficult. The main love interest lacks any real spark so I couldn’t blame her for having a less than lukewarm interest in the guy. The start-up to their relationship / beginning of the story lacked depth and left many unanswered questions. I think the fault there was that it moved too fast and didn’t fully develop the relationship, setting or purpose of what was happening. Still, the ending was solid and set-up the next book in the series nicely.

The main character Fortuna Sworn is very jaded and vengeful. The fairy king is more hopeful for is race. He’s proud of her being able to win the crown but is disappointed that she has to stoop so low to do it. The part with the dragon was sad. With her brother I was like leave him alone, he’s happy living the way he is. It’s not like he’s afraid to get out of it, he DOESN’T want to. She’s turning into just as bad a person as those she hates. Treats the King like crap. Not sure I want to read anymore.

I the concept of the book was intriguing, but I found it lacking. It was underdeveloped and I found it hard to form attachment to the characters. There was just no part that seemed climatic and everything seemed kind of bland. I found the relationship between her and her “ imaginary friend” disturbing. Lastly, every event that occurred seemed to just happen and hold no real significance. However, I’m giving it 3 stars Because i feel inclined to continue the series in hopes that the next book will be more insightful.

Fortuna Sworn is looking for her brother, and she will go to any lengths to find him. This takes her to the land of the faeries which is, of course, wrought with perils and obstacles that she could never have anticipated.

Picked this book without thinking much about it and really glad I did! I am surprised how much I liked this book. It doesn't help that it's my favorite genre, YA Fantasy/Romance. But honestly, good story (not the most original; I've read one similar) and had some twists and turns that I didn't anticipate. I liked how the characters had faults and just seemed more real (while being supernatural). It was definitely entertaining and I look forward to reading the next one.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. Love the interaction between the characters. Who knew a Nightmare could love so strong? Great book now on to the next one can’t wait to see what happens

I wasn't sure about this book when I started reading it. I have a hard time really getting into books with the Faye in them, but this book blew my mind. Fortuna is a woman that no one should mess with. She knows who she is and is proud of it. She thinks on her feet and will do just about anything for the person that she cares about. She makes a vow and keeps it even if it hurts her to do it. This is a wonderful book and I cannot wait to see where the future books are going to go.

Very good story. Good narration as well. Getting ready to start next book. Is a young adult story incase your not in that, but is good for that genre.

A mix of enjoyment and ugh eye rolls. Could be better but it's good enough that it catches you're attention. I like the main character, but she seems to have zero sensibility. Like she runs around trying to be good, but she's all rage and horniness and makes wtf decisions all the time.

Side note if I hear the word clench one more time I'm going to throw my phone. Vocabulary could use some boosting.

It was an overall great read for me. However it was a little slow at first for me and I almost didn’t stick it out because of that. I am excited to read the second book though!

I’m struggling to finish this book. I love this genre but this book falls short. There’s little to no character development and the dialogue is lacking. The big scenes fell flat and the severity of some the events are almost overlooked. This writer has a great story idea but hasn’t fully gotten the hang of bringing it to life. This has been compared to Acotar and I would respond to that with a solid “Nope.”

Started strong but got gradually worse. Narrator made the main character even more annoying.
