    Sulari Gentill is the award-winning author of The Rowland Sinclair Mystery series, historical crime fiction novels set in the 1930s. She won the 2012 Davitt Award for Best Adult Crime Fiction and has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize. After setting out to study astrophysics, graduating in law, and then abandoning her legal career to write books, she now grows French black truffles on her farm in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales.

      Another exciting instalment in this fabulous series. Great to see the band make their way to China and delve a little into the dangerous politics of the time.

      Embarrassing. Perhaps best described as wealth & colonialism porn. Horribly clichéd. Super rich, idle Australian sails off in luxury to 30s Shanghai, eating cucumber sandwiches (described as ‘partaking of the repast’) and always employing his perfect manners. The Aristocrat Suite at the fabled Cathay hotel, where he not only stays but brings along three pals, is lovingly described. ‘The exquisitely carved thingummy, perfectly set with four whatsits of incomparable quality …’
      It goes on for pages like this. I cringed. Do people really want to read or hear this tripe?
