About this audiobook

When James Rafferty died in a hail of bullets in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, that should have been it. But for almost 90 years he’s returned to Chicago on February 14th, just long enough to fall in love and break the curse.

But Rafferty doesn’t believe in love. Not until he runs afoul of district attorney Helen Emerson, with her huge family of cops and her luminous brown eyes, and maybe, just maybe, his time in limbo is over.

But one of his old friends is in trouble, another is on a murderous rampage, and Helen is in the midst of everything, determined not to give in, even to him.

He knows she loves him, but is it enough? Or will a murderer manage to get to her before Rafferty can stop him?

Does he have a chance in hell of learning to love in a short 48 hours?

This story was a different kind of romance. To be one of the dead in the Valentine Day Massacre and come back every year for 48 hours on Valentine's Day until one finds love. It took James 64 years to find his. You knew James was meant for Helen, as she had dreams/visions of echoes of the past.

You may like this if all you are looking for is a feel-good romantic story. For me there was very little of interest plotwise after the initial premise of two days a year reincarnation. The characters are simplistic and the romantic heroine in particular is completely unbelievable, even though she's not the supernatural one. Romance? Yes. Much else? No.

Omg! Helen is such a pain, uggghhh. I had to look up the valentine's day massacre, just to see if it was an actual event and it was...interesting story though, I did enjoy it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short read. The story line was of one that I’ve never read before. I look forward to reading more of this type. The book flowed very well and quick. The only thing that got to me was after just ONE day they are professing their love to each other and wanting to plan futures.Strange but it works with this particular story.

Loved this book - the narrator was spot on! - plenty chuckles I loved raffertys whit! It was exciting with plenty twists and turns - when you’ve heard one love story you’ve heard them all but this one was different- it didn’t drag it it out until the end for them to get together - so yeah a big fat five stars from me

Loved the humour in this story. I have listened to 4 other books by this author and have loved all of them. So far all the books are well written and captured my attention from the first page.

Found myself forgetting that a man was doing the female voice as well but loved how he did Rafferty could not help but think of Billy has the cute adorable kid brother you always look after no matter how old he is. But would have been nice if it was explained why she had the nightmares

First chapter we learn it is 1993. 64 years not 90 ish years. Obviously this was written years ago which is no issue but the editors never read the book otherwise the synopsis would be accurate. Difficult to get past mistakes that are avoidable.

Short and sweet. It would have been better longer with more substance because I liked the characters …what we know about them the narrator made this book very good…for a short book it gave me all I needed to enjoy it. Will read more from this author.

I absolutely loved this narrator! His change of voices and old gangster speak was so good, the fact he also did the female voices was forgotten to me. His old Chicago gangster accent gave way to the intimidating and sexy bad boy image. I thought he sounded quite a bit like Clark Gable with Jamie's voice. This story was really unique. It kept moving like a movie and everything was so easily imagined for me in the author's descriptive dialogue. It was difficult to take a break. The narrator alone was exceptional at bringing it to life. Definitely worth the read!

This was an interesting read. Not really my cuppa tea but I still enjoyed certain aspects of the story. The plot was exciting, the romance cute and there were a lot of funny moments. It was a bit crude for my taste and contained a couple explicit scene so I skipped those.
