About this audiobook

This funny opposites-attract lesbian romance digs up the awkward truth about what really matters in life.

Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She’s achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she’s sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people’s pets.

Has the charity made off with her boss’s generous donation? And who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

Felicity is quite sure she will not be distracted, thank you very much. She has a minor mystery to solve, a mentor to impress, and her life’s dream to fulfil. Even if a distraction might be exactly what she needs.

The Awkward Truth takes place during the last half of Lee Winter’s The Brutal Truth but can easily be read as a standalone story.

This book series has the best narrator I have ever listened to. It makes such a difference, you get to enjoy the book so thoroughly. She has different voice intonations for every character, clearly different accents and consistency throughout the book. Beautiful voice too. The book is fun, cliché but fun. You recognize the characters from the previous book the Brutal truth. I enjoyed it a lot, light hearted and easy to follow, entertaining.

After reading The Brutal Truth, all I wanted was a story about Felicity! I was thrilled to see that it existed and that Angela Dawe was narrating her book as well. I loved getting to know her background a bit better, and Cooper might be one of my favorite characters. Absolutely stunning story, as always from Winter.

Another 10/10 by Lee Winter. The story is engaging and fun with a bit of mystery and sweet romance. Angela Dawe’s narration is exceptional, as always, and her silky voice as Elena is swoon worthy!

Ending was wrapped up too fast. Loves the incorporation of Elena and Maddie at times. Narration was on spot.

Loved some parts, didn't really like other parts
Lee Winter is a great author and this book seemed true to her style, in some ways but not in others. I really have mixed feelings about this book. The romance is excellent, but the mystery not so much. I liked all the characters. I listened to the audiobook version and the narration by Angela Dawe was great, as usual. I loved seeing Felicity grow and change, and I also loved seeing Elena and Maddie appear. I really appreciated seeing Elena's insights into Felicity and what she wanted from her. The mystery aspect had potential but I found it disappointing in some ways. I didn't always follow all the logic and I was perplexed that certain questions weren't asked (much sooner). I was shocked that the investigator didn't come up with much more. Also, Bartel Corp is a media company. Why didn't they do much more of a media review of the charity and the whole situation? Some answers would have come up much sooner. I know that didn't fit the story, but I'm still disappointed. I know some authors make things happen while ignoring logic sometimes to make the story work better, but I just wondered how the characters, with their resources, could be so clueless. I would recommend this book to readers if they can just kind of ignore the "mystery" and focus on the characters and their relationship. The relationship was good and I liked how they could read each other and how Sandy Cooper could be what Felicity needed and helped her change, but the relationship didn't have much of the magic I crave. I did like how Sandy Cooper was a strong character who didn't take any bullsh*t. Felicity needed someone to call her on her attitude, etc. I really appreciated seeing where Felicity came from (metaphorically) and how she was the way she was and also seeing how her outlook changed. Read/listen to this book for the character growth! And I'm still in love with Elena (and Maddie)!
