About this audiobook
An Amazon Charts, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller.
Number one New York Times bestselling master of suspense Dean Koontz takes readers on a twisting journey of lost love, impossible second chances, and terrifying promises.
A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway. She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup’s victims whose remains were never found.
Writer David Thorne still hasn’t recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her. Since then, he’s sought closure any way he can. He even visits regularly with Jessup in prison, desperate for answers about Emily’s final hours so he may finally lay her body to rest. Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost. But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily. As the fantastic becomes credible, David’s obsession grows, Maddison’s mysterious past deepens—and terror escalates.
Is she Emily? Or an irresistible dead ringer? Either way, the ultimate question is the same: What game is she playing? Whatever the risk in finding out, David’s willing to take it for this precious second chance. It’s been ten years since he’s felt this inspired, this hopeful, this much in love…and he’s afraid.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was my first Dean Koontz I think I just expected more. This was more a sci-fry in the end then a horror. Also his internal dialogue was very repetitive . 3.5 stars

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5An amazing story that is about love and truth. That will save us all.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It was really good up to where the time travelers were revealed. Then it off the rails. It was like Mr. Koontz just rushed an ending. I normally love his books. But this one left me saying “what the what”
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Dean Koontz had long been one of my favorite authors for the macabre, but this one was really lacking to me compared to others by him. It was somewhat hard to follow along, probably because it just didn't hold my attention, and felt like it went on WAY longer than necessary.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it! Immersive and creative. This story had me captive.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I usually enjoy a quick Dean Koontz read, but I just could not engage with the characters in this book. At quite a few points I even wondered about who had really written it. This is not something I have ever thought about his other novels. I wondered actually if it was ghost written by someone else.
IMHO - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Wasn't what I was expecting at all. Disappointing, waste of time read for me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Other Emily by Dean KoontzEmily vanished after her car broke down, assumed to be a victim of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup. David, who was Emily's boyfriend, has never given up hope to find her one day. He visits Ronny in prison, trying to find answers. He meets a woman (Maddison) who is strikingly similar to Emily. She is so similar she could be Emily. David will stop at nothing to get answers no matter what shocking surprises he finds.A fast paced intense story. Twists, turns, and shocking events occur in this page-turning suspense. I was hooked from the first page until the last. I highly recommend The Other Emily to Dean Koontz fans and those who enjoy thrilling suspense.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5WOW, WOW, I don' think that I the pleasure of reviewing this author before, and I was intrigued by the first CHAPTER!! A DECADE ago, Emily Carlino's car broke down on a stretch of the California highway and it was thought that a serial killer on the loose had killed her, but no body had ever been found. Poor David Throne had never forgiven himself for not being there for Emily and protecting her and when the killer was finally in prison, he visited him hoping to get closure, BUT his world was rocked when Maddison enters his world and kisses him just like Emily had done! THE OTHER EMILY WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD AND KEEP YOU LONGING FOR MORE!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5We meet Maddison who is a dead ringer in every way to the missing Emily. She is Emily’s identical twin down to the most intimate detail...but we readers, as well as David...know that Emily didn’t have a twin...identical or otherwise. Now we now have to find the answers to the questions of where did she come from. and why did their paths cross in that restaurant? David’s life is turned upside down. This is a dark story of psychological suspense told by the master. If your forte is suspense... psychological intrigue...compelling mystery...served with a touch of horror...then this is diffidently for you.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Ten years ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down along a desolate stretch of California highway. Although her body was never found, she was presumed to have been a victim of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup. Writer David Thorne has been mourning Emily -- the love of his life -- for ten years, never being able to overcome the guilt of not being there for her that night. Then one day David meets Maddison Sutton, a dead ringer for the Emily of ten years ago -- in appearance and personality. And David is left to wonder, who is Maddison? Is she Emily? But that's impossible. And yet there is no explanation for who Maddison is.Dean Koontz is a master of suspense. His writing has changed throughout the decades, his books moving away from horror to suspense, but through all these years his writing has remained as solid as ever, everyone of his books imbued with heart (even his earliest horror novels were always able to elicit sympathy from me for the evil characters). I continue to be an avid fan of Koontz. His luminous writing stands apart from that of other mainstream authors; I always love his descriptions of things as simple as the landscape or the sunset over ocean waters."The Other Emily" started a little on the slow side but picked up the pace -- and continued to pick up the pace all the way to the end. Like a barreling train, the plot got faster and faster, and I was truly unable to put the book down for the entire last half because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I needed to figure out what David Thorne was trying to figure out.Nice job, Mr. Koontz. I look forward to your next novel!
