About this audiobook

“A haunted house thriller packed with cryptic mystery, dark humor, and bone-chilling twists.” —Ryan Douglass, New York Times bestselling author of The Taking of Jake Livingston

The Haunting of Hill House meets Sadie in this “genuinely terrifying” (School Library Journal, starred review) psychological thriller following two teen girls navigating the treacherous past of a mysterious mansion ten years apart.

Daisy sees dead people—something impossible to forget in bustling, ghost-packed Toronto. She usually manages to deal with her unwanted ability, but she’s completely unprepared to be dumped by her boyfriend. So when her mother inherits a secluded mansion in northern Ontario where she spent her childhood summers, Daisy jumps at the chance to escape. But the house is nothing like Daisy expects, and she begins to realize that her experience with the supernatural might be no match for her mother’s secrets, nor what lurks within these walls…

A decade later, Brittney is desperate to get out from under the thumb of her abusive mother, a bestselling author who claims her stay at “Miracle Mansion” allowed her to see the error of her ways. But Brittney knows that’s nothing but a sham. She decides the new season of her popular Haunted web series will uncover what happened to a young Black girl in the mansion ten years prior and finally expose her mother’s lies. But as she gets more wrapped up in the investigation, she’ll have to decide: if she can only bring one story to light, which one matters most—Daisy’s or her own?

As Brittney investigates the mansion in the present, Daisy’s story runs parallel in the past, both timelines propelling the girls to face the most dangerous monsters of all: those that hide in plain sight.

This book is so great. You think you know what's going on, but then the last 3 hours breaks everything you know and expect from the book. I read another review that said none of the characters are likable, which isn't true. But what's more important is that they are all real, with real desires and real pains. Sambury has the incredible quality to make you feel things and see the world from a completely fresh perspective.

The characters, the narration, the depth of the plot, it all fit together beautifully. This is the type of book I crave. Love, love, loved it! Layered black characters, flawed and challenging your sympathies. I always find themes of emotional pain and horror cathartic. Count me as a new fan of this author.

Honestly — I wasn’t sure if I loved it or hated it until the end — then I was bawling at work while listening to the last three chapters. So consensus is I loved it.

What a satisfying tale about monsters! I really enjoy Liselle stories. She has such a way of pulling you into this tale of supernatural happenings with characters that feel as real as me and you. I truly love the way she moves back and forth between the past and present to tell the tale of Daisy and what happened to her, from Daisy's point of view and Brittany's the Podcaster looking into the story. It is written excellent and it draws you end. It deals with real life issued and I feel the ending leaves you satisfied with knowing what happened to everyone. The narrators do a great job and I easily was drawn into this world while listening. A really good book and listen for those who like supernatural novels that still hold a firm standing in real life issues.

This book should be studied in schools for the amount of layers and mystery it has. An instant classic.

Very good story and did not see the twist at the end coming! It was very YA and in the mind of a teen but the chills and goosebumps kept you on the edge of your seat. The eerie details as the true story unfolded made it all worth it! I loved that it was a story within a story. Great read! Would definitely recommend!

This book was awesome. Usually i can guess all the plot twist in books and movies, and it's really unamusing. But this book?! I was genuinely dropping my jaw by some of the twists in turns. It's a real look at mother daughter relationships, and the stories people weave. Definitely recommend listening or reading.

Darkly beautiful, keeps you guessing and engaged. I absolutely loved it and will be one of those stories that has a special place in my heart.

This book is for me and for all of the rest of us "forgotten" black girls.

Okay, so at first, I was like NOPE! I can't get jiggy with this book. I'm not feeling it. But then, about chapter 22, it starts to pick up, and things are starting to be explained. I have NEVER came across a book that there were no LIKABLE characters until this book. Daisy, Ivy, King, Grace, and her aunt allofem were not likable. The story was great! AFTER getting an understanding of the house and a very thorough character build-up, I can see this book as a TV show/ movie. This book gave me house on haunted hill / rose red vibes.

I absolutely loved this book. I wasn't sure at first since it didn't have many reviews and I normally stick to books with at least 100, but considering how new it is I gave it a chance. So good. So mysterious and kept me "on the edge of my seat". I use audiobooks to help get me through work. Many leave me feeling a little bored but this one made me feel like I wasn't even at work!

Definitely for a young adult audience, as advertised. Was still enjoyable, but the ending felt a little cutesy to me as a middle-aged woman.
