She spent eight years of her life hating her job every day. She would spend her time daydreaming about characters in faraway places doing exciting things, and began writing in her head. She left banking to become the new bookkeeper for her husband’s company, and was responsible for accounting and HR for two garages and sixteen employees. She found that the world of running a business sucked every bit of creativity out of her and for several years, her creative self lay dormant. She had always enjoyed reading, and Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown provided her escape from the drudgery of the everyday grind. As time passed, she found the responsibilities of being homemaker, child raiser, elder caregiver, wife, and business partner, to be draining the life out of her. She looked forward to the end of the day, when everyone had gone to bed, for her life to begin. She stayed up late, burning the midnight oil, escaping into a book, and living vicariously through the characters that came to life on the page. She found herself daydreaming more and more about characters in faraway places doing exciting things, and once again she began writing in her head. One day she decided to write some of it down, and suddenly the story developed a life of its own. It was really writing itself. Every time she got stuck, and didn’t know where it was going next, she turned on the TV or go to the Internet and something would jump out at her as the solution to her roadblock. She found the process to be much like painting: start with the background, decide on the focal point, and use contrast and texture to bring the subject to life. And thus Norma Cook, the author was born.view less
