About this ebook

For fans who have been been waiting to devour Darker After Midnight, as well as new readers tempted by the seductive thrills of her Midnight Breed novels, New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian offers up a tantalizing appetizer in A Taste of Midnight. In this spellbinding eBook novella of otherworldly desire, a woman whose destiny was born from a blood kiss discovers that second chances do come . . . even for immortals.

A shimmering holiday gala lights up an ancient castle in the Scottish Highlands, but beautiful widowed Breedmate Danika MacConn feels alone in the crowd. Even among the friends and festivity of the Darkhaven celebration, she can’t forget her lost love, a fallen warrior of the Order. Her brief return to her mate’s homeland has become treacherous after rejecting the advances of a dangerous Edinburgh crime boss with a taste for blood sport. As Danika seeks to expose the vampire and his dark trade, she discovers an unexpected ally in his forbidding, enigmatic henchman, Brannoc, a man who exudes heat, danger, and dark menace—and seems somehow achingly familiar. Bran has his own reasons for wanting to keep Dani out of his employer’s business . . . and his own secrets he means to keep buried. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a woman who tempts the wildest part of his Breed nature—especially when that woman is Danika MacConn, the one woman capable of bringing him to his knees.

It was ok. I think I'm ready for this series to wrap up. I'm looking forward to Chase's story but more for closure than anything else. I like the series, it's just run its course. (2.5 stars)

It was nice reading about Danika and her HEA. However, it was achiever WAY too quickly. And only a little more than a year after losing Conlan? Meh... didn't buy it.

I think the direction was good, but it could have been a little more than a novella, in which case Adrian could've written it better developed.

Good, if very short story about the grieving Danika and an old friend of her's and her late husband. It is nice to have this short just before the tenth book comes out.

Good short story, quick appetizer for the series.

Loved it but kind of seemed rushed at end.

I would have rated this higher if it weren't for the circumstances surrounding the past of the hero & heroine. I just couldn't get on board with her being "in mourning" yet jumping in the sack with him. If you can put all that in the back of your mind, you'll probably enjoy this a great deal more than I did. Without that pesky detail, I'd probably be inclined to give this 4-4.5 stars.

This novella is just what a seasoned Adrian reader would expect: a mourning Breedmate catches the fancy of a mourning and Byronic Breed male she knew once upon a time, there's a spot of violence to throw them together, and they shove off towards lovely vampiric alien family bliss. Although it leaves out much of the "mechanics" of Adrian's world (such as an explanation of races, what makes one a Breedmate, etc - which appears in all other novels), even this novella is new-reader friendly, and would certainly make a consistent introduction to the series.
