About this ebook

A rogue, a bard, and a paladin walk into a tavern ...

This sounds like the start of a joke, but it’s actually the start of several pages full of them. This short story follows the exploits of a comically mismatched group of adventurers as they embark on a quest for The Dice, mythical objects with the power to change fate itself, and compete for the affections of a beautiful barmaid. From John Abramowitz, the author of Weaver, comes an irreverent homage to classic fantasy.

Author

John Abramowitz

John Abramowitz is a long, tall Texan (very, very tall) born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. Educated at Grinnell College in the great state of Iowa, he considers Iowa his second home state, and keeps on good terms with both by eating both barbecue AND corn. When he's not watching way too much sci-fi/fantasy TV or reading similar books (or working, obviously), you can usually find him reading the news or playing video games. He currently resides in Austin, Texas, where he works as a lawyer and author.

    The Rogue’s Tale

It all started with this girl I met in a bar. I know, any story that starts that way can’t end well, right? Shoulda seen it coming, but I didn’t. Nope, I mounted up Hector – that’s my horse – and rode out to the Antlerbury’s Antlers and Ale, the only halfway decent tavern in Antlerbury, my little township. The name isn’t a lie, by the way – there are antlers everywhere in that place. I mean everywhere.

Anyway, so I tied Hector to a post a ways short of the tavern and started to make my way on foot. I’m a rogue, after all. To be an effective rogue, you have got to know how to make a good entrance, and that means stealth. Nobody will take you seriously if you’re wearing bright colors and making loud noises everywhere you go. I mean, really, people can hire a mage or a paladin
