I am an independently published author that finds scraps of time to write with intentions to escape the perils of a working life while owning and operating three small businesses with my husband, raising teen boys, sixteen paws (yes four shelter dogs) and a tank full of fish that keep multiplying on their own every time we look for baby fish – free fish anyone? For all of the chaos, testing of mental fortitude, strength and intuition I have endured, I have a lot to be thankful for.Recent years have put my dedication to writing time on the back burner. There were a few major surgeries within my immediate household, to then have major changes in life in general. As of 2015, I lost my mother to the final battle of Ovarian Cancer. She was a strong independent woman that I loved deeply but often saw things quite a bit differently, yet only a mother knows, you love your child no matter what - and that love will always find a way.Between our business, teens, my mother’s cancer battle and life, I have found a renewed sense of what makes me content when the tides are trying to drown me... and that is to be creative in any whimsical way that nudges me. I am back to writing full force when time allows, painting, gardening, taking pictures, knitting or my all-time favorite thing that helped me morn my loss, scrapbooking. All of these things are so very therapeutic and to be able to share with others, gives me joy.I hope you like my books, not perfect as they could be; but life is not perfect and is meant to be enjoyed nonetheless. – CJ Hawk

Wrapped And Ready
Nothing could excite Miranda more than a night on the town to see the holiday lights, in a limousine no less. When her office heartthrob and ok, boss, Damien Mitchell asked her to accommodate him to the corporate awards banquet, she knew her holiday wish would come true. She had dreamt many a nights about having their first kiss from that man and now that they would be driving around in a limo to see the holiday lights after the silly banquet she knew she had to dress to seduce.
Miranda decided that dipping into the holiday bonus money she knew she was going to receive was not well spent on a holiday updo and sexy attire, 'but heck, you only live once'; she reverberated in her head. She began to defrost her credit card from the block of ice that she had frozen it in three months ago, on account that her spending habits had gotten a bit out of control.
As she ran the blow dryer over the chunk of ice, watching her credit card illuminate from within, she reasoned with herself. The last three payments of two hundred dollars were on there, minus interest paid, and the previous balance available was five hundred of the five thousand dollar limit they gave her. A sensible girl would dig deep into her over shopped closet to find something that would work; however, since the moment Damien asked her to go with her, she was nowhere near sensible. She was downright giddy.
The minute the frozen cold credit card sat in her hands dripping with water from the last bit of ice, she smiled victoriously. Macys with the adorable red dress, here I come!
She shouted out to herself from the kitchen of her one-bedroom apartment.
First on her agenda was shopping at Macys. The hair appointment would wait until next Saturday the morning of the event. She had been Googling updo images all week on her computer, and she printed out the perfect one. She picked up her Macys forty percent off coupon along with her fake Gucci purse and shot out of her apartment door at a sprinter's pace.
Excuse me.
A very deep and grumpy voice barked out. Miranda turned so quick to see who was there that her long brown hair flipped outwards like a whip. Her brown eyes scanned the man standing before her looking as if he just crawled out of a lumberjack's hole. His messy long dark hair was under a Rockies baseball cap; his beard on his face had a piece of what looked to be green chili, or so she could hope. His eyes hid behind a pair of dark sunglasses, and the plaid flannel shirt from the eighties had more wrinkles than a Shar-Pei dog. His faded worn jeans were covered in grease, and his big feet were inside a pair of industrial steel tip boots. His breath held the distinct odor of alcohol. If she had not run into him before, she would think perhaps he was a vagrant; however, he was her neighbor - on occasion. He was Jay something or other, and he worked months at a time on a fisherman's boat out around the Alaskan coast, or so the nosey old lady from next door told her once. This must be his off-season, and he just got back from a work trip. He looked like he could use an acid bath to remove months of neglect to his hair and attire.
She watched him point to her purse as he mumbled something incoherent. She
