About this ebook

You have been taking pictures for a while now, and you are getting good at it. Some of your friends, and even family, have suggested that you sell your photos somewhere.

After some thought you have decided to sell your pictures online. But how? An Internet search gave you superficial information that was rehashed throughout several blogs, but not enough to get you on your way. So, how do you get started? I have been asked that question many times over the past few years.

Hi, my name is Leonard Shaefer, and I've been looking at the world through a camera lens for over 30 years now. In recent years I have seen an upsurge in folks turning to the camera as a means to strengthen their revenue streams, but they've failed in frustration because they didn't have a plan.

Now you have a guide that will take you step-by-step into the world of Stock Photography, where Professionals and Hobbyists have the same chance at making money by selling their photos online. I will teach you the secrets of getting your work seen through better EXIF and IPTC Metadata use. You will learn what kind of pictures to take and where to submit them, how to protect your images, and much more.

Leonard Shaefer

My name is Leonard Shaefer. I am a photographer, writer, artist, and instructor with over 30 years behind the camera. When I look through the lens I am searching for new ways to share my experience. The images I create are heavily weighted toward nature. I’m drawn to evanescent sunsets, the assemblage of landscapes, and the serendipity of searching out subjects in the wilderness. As a photographer I have worked in Real Estate, with National Fund Raising Organizations, and the News Media, It is fun to leisurely search out that perfect shot for personal use, however, I thoroughly enjoy the challenges and outcomes of being on assignment. When your photos have to be their best, and you are telling someone else's story with the images, there are no second chances. If a mistake is made when shooting for my own pleasure then I have missed a great shot. When that mistake is made on assignment then someone is losing a once in a lifetime memory.

Thank you for putting your trust in me and buying this book. I have been disappointed in the past when purchasing how-to books and finding the material was covered in a superficial way. So, I have made every effort to thoroughly research every aspect of selling photographs through stock photography agencies. And, to be sure I got it right, I put it to the test by following each step outlined here, as if I were doing this for the first time. I believe I've succeeded in producing a book worthy of your attention with easy to follow instructions. This is not a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme. Whether or not you develop an income by selling your photos is - in the end - entirely up to you. Dedication and persistence is required. More importantly though, is following all of the steps I outline. Thanks again for purchasing this book, and the best of luck on your endeavor.

So, you have your digital camera and you are taking some pretty good photographs by now. Your friends, and even family say, you should get those photos put on a card, or a calendar. After some thought, you want to go ahead and get those postcard-perfect shots submitted somewhere and make a little money while you are at it.

The thing is, you have never done anything like this before, and you don't know anyone that has. Where do you start? Who do you talk to? Does anybody really buy photographs?

This book explains the methods used to submit photographs to Micro-Stock, and Stock Photography agencies. I also explain some easy ways to protect your photos from online theft, your legal responsibilities, and much more.

Stock Photography agencies use websites to showcase photographs – your photographs. They advertise their business, fight for top search engine rankings, sell photos, and basically do all the work. For allowing them to sell your photographs you get a cut of the sale price.

First, let me start by saying that I am a photographer and a writer, and I am definitely not a lawyer. So, please seek professional advice if you have questions or concerns about the legality of your endeavors.
