    Preface

How do I heal my family from divorce, violence, abuse, grief, sickness, injury and tragedy?

What an important question. It seems that there is no way to erase the effects of the horrible things that can befall us and our loved ones. For most people the loss and accompanying grief leaves us devastated, often for years or even the rest of our lives. Everything in us cries out for justice and even when justice is served it doesn't heal us or replace what we have lost.

But there is a way you can experience life crushing tragedies and not suffer loss or devastation. No, I'm not lying to you! There is one thing that can heal all your wounds an even leave you with more than you had before tragedy struck.

    It is

    Forgiveness

    Yes, forgiveness.

Forgiving releases the amazing grace and compassion of God, who is heart broken by your suffering. He is longing to restore and heal you and even give you more than you had to begin with. You see forgiveness is really the power to restore. Unlike justice that calls for an eye for an eye.

Many people believe that there is no loving God who can heal them and give back what was taken from them. They hold that if there was a God or if He cared their tragedy never would have happen to them to begin with. But this is a great misunderstanding; see if God was to stop all the evil in the world it would require taking a gift from all of us that is so precious that its corresponding loss would be more devastating than the evil it would rid the world of. That gift is free will or our freedom.

So instead God chose to create an antidote to the poisonous effects of evil, destruction and pain. And that antidote is forgiveness.

    The Need for Forgiveness

    A Messed Up World

The world is a messed up place. All you have to do to prove this statement is look around and you will see just how completely evil and destroyed the world is.

However I don’t believe it was intended to be like this. In fact I believe at one time it was incredible, the world was not messed up at all.

In Genesis the first through third chapters it describes how God created the Earth and when He was done, God said that it was good. Based on the idea that God is perfect for Him to say that it was good it must have been amazing. He made the sun, moon, the stars, the oceans, the mountains, all the plants, all the animals and even mankind and after He finished He placed man in the garden. Then God himself came down and walked in the cool of the evening with man in the garden. So I imagine for God to have visited daily it must have been a really good time, far better than now because quite frankly we don’t see God physically walking around today.

So what happened; to take the world from the wonderful, amazing place that it began as, to the mess we have to face today? You don’t have to look very far to realize that something must have gone horribly wrong. Even if you’re spoiled and live in suburban America and have it better off than any other people in the world all you have to do is turn on the news and you will see that the world is messed up.

There are natural disasters; hunger and disease, there are wars, hatred, bigotry and all sorts of unrest, depression and insanity it goes on and on. Face it the world is just really screwed up.

People are being hurt right and left and on every level physically, mentally, one out of two couples gets divorced and that hurts them. 75% of our children are touched by divorce and that hurts them. Large portions of our population have been abused by a family member. We have huge murder rates. Stealing is rampant. Lying for most of us has become a way of life. It never seems to end.

    Things are just not good!!!

Because things are messed up many of us have been wounded and are hurt or destroyed. Since we have a very, very bad view of God and His ruler ship or sovereignty if you like, many of us have gone well it must be God’s will. It always saddens me whenever I hear a child ask a parent, Daddy why did Grandma die? And he answers, well it’s because God would rather have her with Him in Heaven then down here with us. It breaks my heart because it’s such a lie. Well it was God’s will that they suffered and died, it was just God’s will.

Right After the tsunami hit in 2004 a friend of mine and I were having lunch one day and I asked my friend, Man that tsunami was awful what do you think happened there?

He answered, well you know that’s the part of the world that has rejected the gospel and God is bringing judgment against them.

I wanted to punch Him. I mean I really wanted to punch Him! That wasn’t God’s will he didn’t do that. In fact we need to look and see what God’s will is.

You should pray like this: Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name, ¹⁰your kingdom come, your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Matthew 6: 9-10

Here in the Lords Prayer Jesus said we should pray. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Now I have never been to Heaven. I know some people have died and come back and others have had visions, but one thing that is in common is everyone tells of how wonderful it is their. Overall everyone who reports on Heaven says it is utopia, it’s fantastic.

Jesus says that we are supposed to pray for it to be on Earth as it is in Heaven. God’s will be done like it is in Heaven. So by this we know that God’s desire is for the Earth to be a utopia like Heaven and for nothing to ever be wrong, the paradise of the Garden of Eden.

Despite our bad view of God’s sovereignty it’s not God’s will or fault that all this bad stuff is happening.

    So who’s fault is it?

    John chapter three says,

"¹⁹This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds are evil. ²⁰Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light, so their deeds are not exposed. ²¹But the one who walks in truth comes into the light, so that his deeds may be seen clearly as done through God. "John 3:19-21

First off what is a verdict? A verdict is the conclusion that a court comes to and the verdict that has been placed on man is that we like darkness instead of the light. Since we have chosen darkness the world operates in darkness and is messed up.

Everyone that is doing wrong is busy doing it by their own choice apart from God’s will. This passage also shows us that we would rather stay in the darkness so our deeds won’t be exposed. We really don’t want to admit our true nature.

Finally from the passage we see that if we walk in truth we come into the light and the only way to walk in truth and come into the light is through God, yet we choose the darkness so we can have the credit.

The world is a messed up terrible place because we love darkness rather than light. So whose fault is it? It’s ours!

Right now a lot of you are going no, no, no not me I didn’t choose darkness. Well get over yourself you choose it every day and all the time. If you don’t believe me just look inside yourself and you’ll know it’s true.

So how are we going to fix it because God is good and His will is for it to be like Heaven here on Earth? Man can’t choose goodness for himself so he has to be governed. God proved this by giving us authority to rule and subdued the Earth back while we’re in the garden. Yet even in this paradise that was so wonderful that man even walked daily with
