      I used to be a nanny for four children and I loved the busy schedule because it really made my workday fly by. However, one of the best parts of the day was after the chaos of the morning rush was over and the three older kids were on their way to school. Then, I could brainstorm up fun activities to do with the youngest child in the family that would keep us occupied for a while.

      He was so ready to explore what the world could offer him in terms of mental stimulation and hands on learning, as are most preschoolers. It was fascinating watching how amazed and sometimes amused he became during certain craft creations and when we played games.

      A lot of the activities would get him to think critically and ask relevant questions that I was only too happy to answer. It was most heartwarming to see how excited he was to present the products of our days to his parents and family when they got home.

Many of the arts and crafts projects will result in beautiful seasonal decorations to display in your home. You will be astounded by the creations you can make with your preschooler, who will, alternatively, be enthusiastic about tapping their imagination, enhancing their knowledge, and most of all, spending valuable time with you.

      The Best Way to Use This Book

      The activities are split into four main categories that correspond to the four seasons. Many of the projects can be done during any season, but the subcategories are themed. Thus, the first subcategory is a Let’s Go type of category. Let’s Go Fishing falls under Spring activities, Let’s Go on a Safari is found under Summer, and so on.

      The second subcategory of each season contains two subjects of which the first four activities can be thought of as more masculine while the last four can be thought of as more feminine (although this is not necessarily so in each case). The first example is Pirates and Princesses under the Spring category where the first four activities are pirate themed and the last four are medieval or princess themed.

      All the other seasons have similar subcategories and all the activities are explained in thorough detail using uncomplicated supplies to make original crafts and engage in unique games.

      I. Spring

      Let’s Go Fishing

      Activity #1: Reel ‘Em In

      Make a pole and decorate some fish, and see how many letters, numbers, shapes, and colors your little one can catch!

      For a very fun fishing game, you will need a long, sturdy stick or rod, some string, and a magnet. Tie one end of the string to the end of the stick, and the other to the magnet, which acts as your bait. Then, cut out some fishy shapes from different colored construction paper or drawing paper.

      Have the kids decorate the fish any way they like, but make sure that they leave space for you to add letters, numbers, or shapes. You can write the numbers and letters on with a marker, or use those extra mailbox stickers you have laying around. Either way, add a paperclip to each of the fish. This is the metal that will become attracted to the magnet.

      Now, throw the fish on the carpet or floor, making sure to spread them out a bit. Have the children take turns fishing. Every
