Chapter One

The scrap of heavy vellum paper in my hand shook either from the wind or my rattled nerves. Written in Atticus’ pinpoint printing, with the distinctive purple ink of his Mont Blanc pen, the paper contained only a few words, Madame Eve, 1Night Stand, and the email address. I turned the slip of paper over and over as I stood in the icy parking lot attached to Fritz’s, a gay members only leather club in Denver.

As my attorney and best friend, Atticus had a habit of stepping in to help when I couldn’t or wouldn’t help myself. If he didn’t have personal proof her matches worked, I wouldn’t be standing in the cold holding the email address of a woman who offered a very expensive and exclusive service. It had worked for Atticus because he’d been looking for a man to belong to him, someone to balance his life. I just wanted to forget. Still, he wouldn’t have given me the information if he hadn’t thought it would be of some use.

I knew Madame Evangeline, known as Madame Eve, set people up on dates. Or a hookup, in my case. The exclusivity of the service attracted me, and Atticus believed her to be omniscient…or something. He swore all her matchups worked. I hoped to God his instincts were right because what I needed I hadn’t been able to find on my own, and I’d begun to feel desperate as well as horny. My balls protested every time I passed up the opportunity to be with a Dom because my heart belonged to another man.

I unlocked my Porsche Cayman and got in, pissed my plans to get off had been thwarted by my own stupid emotions.
