About this ebook

Just when Tess — widowed, pushing forty and carrying a few extra pounds — becomes resigned to her nonexistent sex life, her hunky young landlord makes his interest known. Tess would give anything to take Chase up on his offer for a one-night stand, but she’s afraid of ruining their friendship. She has a choice to make – one mind-blowing night with Chase or a lifetime of wondering ‘what if’.

Chase has wanted Tess for the last two years. Hell, he is head-over-heels in love with her, but she doesn’t take him seriously, since he's almost a decade younger. Chase is livid when he assumes someone else has been fulfilling Tess’s needs. He wants her to see him as more than just a friend, even if it means playing down-and-dirty to prove it. But just how far will Chase go to win Tess’s heart forever?

He's a hunky yet misunderstood alpha male hero. She's a beautiful independent but gun-shy heroine. This book contains sexual situations, content and language and is intended for mature readers.

When she didn’t move, he closed his hand over hers, wrapping her palm around the device repeating his request more firmly, “Show me, Tess.”
As if motivated by the promise of things to come, Tess slid her hand from beneath his and took the toy; she hesitantly sat on the couch farthest away from Chase. He’d considered demanding she remain next to him, but noticed her chosen seat offered him a perfect view for the demonstration.
After sitting immobile for a minute, Tess finally spoke. “I don’t think I can,” she whispered with genuine regret as she turned off the toy. His disappointment was evident, and she quickly continued, “I want to. I really do. But I’ve never, ever...”
Chase already knew Tess had limited experience with men. She rarely dated and although almost every man she met flirted with her, she seemed totally oblivious to their affections. It was one of the things that he found endearing about her. But he also knew she’d denied herself for too long. It was time for her to experience all those things she’d missed. Tonight he would bring out the wanton he knew she hid beneath her sensible exterior.
“Close your eyes, Tess,” Chase instructed calmly.
She hesitated briefly before complying.
“I’m going to tell you what I want you to do, and you’re going to follow my lead. Okay?”
Keeping her eyes closed, she nodded.
“I’m dying to know what you’ve got on underneath that robe, Tess.”
It took a moment for Tess to make a move, but eventually she lifted her backside off the couch and tossed the bottom flaps of her fuzzy robe up and to the side. She gave Chase a view of the sexiest pale blue panties that he’d ever seen. He was so caught up in the view, he didn’t have time to regret that she’d chosen not to remove the entire robe altogether.
“Now spread your legs for me, baby.”
Her hands flexed on the fabric of the sofa as she hesitantly parted her thighs.
“You’re wet already, aren’t you, Tess?” he asked, even though the dark patch on her panties had already provided him with his answer.
She let out a soft moan and squirmed, letting Chase know just how much this turned her on.
“What do you want to do now, Tess?” Chase asked, trying to give her back some control.
“I...I...” she stopped and started again, as if breathing in the courage she needed to voice her request. “I want to feel how hard it is.”

    PROLOGUE

    The Driveway

What’s up with Tess? She walked right by me and didn’t even say good morning. Is she still hung over? Gage asked.

I think she sobered up pretty quickly, Chase told his friend. Especially since we argued after you guys left last night.

It wasn’t because of what Roxi said, was it? Gage asked.

    Nah.

Then what did you two fight about?

Chase hesitated, and then figured he might as well come clean. I asked her to have sex with me.

    You what?!

    The Coffee Shop

Chase asked me to sleep with him last night, Tess announced to her friend.

OMG! Finally! Roxi squealed with excitement. How was it? Tell me all the dirty details.

Duh! Don’t be ridiculous. I didn’t actually do it.

    What! Why the fuck not?

It would be pity sex, Tess reluctantly admitted.

Are you blind woman? That man is in love with you.

    The Naughty Store

The young, female, eager-to-please clerk offered, That one’s our bestseller. It even has a money-back guarantee if you don’t — well, you know — in under a minute.

    Have an orgasm? Tess asked.

"An orgasm? The clerk laughed. Nah, this baby is guaranteed to give you multiple back-to-back orgasms or a full refund. Trust me, there’s a reason it’s our bestseller. Shall I ring it up for you?"

    Sure. Why not? Tess agreed.

After accepting payment for the item, the helpful salesgirl handed Tess a plain brown paper bag containing her purchase. Here, she said as she gave it to Tess. We have special logo-free bags for customers like you.

    Like me? Tess asked.

First and last timers. You know, not our regular crowd, she advised with a wink.

    Oh…um…thanks.

    Enjoy.

    CHAPTER ONE

Tess childishly avoided Chase for several days, missing her best friend the whole time. She missed chatting with Chase when he finished work and hanging out with him in the garage while he restored his classic old car. Most of all she missed the way he teased her and made her laugh.

Her job as a freelance accountant afforded her the luxury of spending her days at home, but it didn’t leave her very entertained. Tess realized how dependent she’d become on those daily doses of Chase once she didn’t have them. They needed to talk.

Gathering her nerve, she found him in the garage working on his car.

Hi, she said, startling Chase as he hovered over his massive stainless-steel toolbox. She could tell he was still setting up, because his hands lacked the usual grease that coated them when working on his hobby. As the sole owner of the town’s largest building renovation company, Chase was a busy man; however, he always seemed to have time for Tess.

Hi, he replied with genuine affection.

For several moments they silently drank in the sight of each other, as if it’d been months rather than days since they’d last laid eyes on one another.

Chase finally broke the silence. I guess you expect an apology, he said, though not actually offering one.

No, not really, Tess admitted, and she could tell that her answer surprised him.

"You probably deserve one, Tess. I mean, you were drunk, and I took advantage
