About this ebook
The second installment of Once Upon a Zombie Apocalypse continues as Jade and Kylee fight their way out of Virginia Beach and head toward the Mason Dixon line. There, they hope to find Kylee’s family alive and well.
The virus, which is turning the world’s population into zombies, is spreading faster than either of them would have imagined. Chaos now plagues what is left of society, leaving death and destruction rioting in the streets. Many of the survivors have gone into hiding in order to stay alive.
Jade and Kylee refuse to hide. The need to find their families is even stronger than their will to live, and it is the driving force on the journey to find their loved ones.

Entry #2
Once upon a time, my world was normal.
There is no going back to the way it was. In a matter of days, we have seen devastation and chaos take over. It’s spreading fast, too fast to fix, leaving society in ruins and turning cities into ghost towns.
People are disappearing quicker than I would have ever expected. In the short time we have been on the road I haven’t seen many people, but the zombies are everywhere. They walk around aimlessly, in search of fresh meat … in search of us. It’s probably safe to assume that anyone who has survived so far has gone into hiding, only to come out when they need something.
Most people were not prepared for the shit hitting the fan. And very few of those who did prepare actually thought it would be a fucking zombie apocalypse; I sure as hell didn’t think it would be what fucked up our world. I was more concerned about a nuclear war, or China finally wanting to collect on all that money we owe them. I don’t know, anything but zombies.
At this point, Kylee and I have to take it one step at a time. My family is far away from where we are, and Kylee’s home is closest, so that is our first destination.
Each day is a different adventure and a new test of our strength. Our friendship has been strengthened, but tested at the same time. Ky and I, we are two very different people, and in some ways it’s a challenge to be around each other for very long.
In other ways, it’s a balance. She strengthens me where I am weak and makes me see a softer side when I am too harsh, which I tend to be more than I want to admit. I’d like to think that it’s the same for her as it is with me.
One thing I know for certain is that I wouldn’t be able make it through this without her. I guess if you’re going to be stuck smack in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, it’s always a plus to be stuck there with your best friend.
Onward we go, each day bringing us a little bit closer to our loved ones … our husbands and children, the people we would die for. Hopefully, when we find them, they will be alive.
***
The city stood before us, only it wasn’t the picture of desolation you see in the movies. We both knew there was chaos waiting for us within. The salty ocean air on the breeze gave the impression of peace and serenity … hope.
The darkness had finally fallen upon us. Our first night of the apocalypse loomed ahead, making it even scarier because these monsters could be anywhere … or everywhere.
Where are we going?
Kylee asked as she tried to adjust her legs. She could barely move them they were so long and the car was so tiny. I hate this fucking car,
she mumbled, more to herself than either of us.
We need weapons and supplies, clothes.
I gestured to my bloodstained attire, which also happened to be sufficiently covered in zombie goo.
And shoes.
Kylee wiggled her bare foot and glared down at her mutilated shoes, which used to be her prized high heels. How are we going to find these places? We don’t know Virginia Beach.
We are going to need maps eventually, but for now there is probably still a network and we can just Google it.
I pulled out my phone and opened the browser. Sure enough, the search page opened, ready for me to type in what I wanted. I decided the first thing we needed, above all else, was weapons. Even though we were going super slow at the moment, I swerved around the road while typing in a quick search for guns and ammunition in Virginia Beach. Luckily, I got a couple of hits for smaller shops in the area.
You shouldn’t drive and Google.
Kylee held out her hand. Let me see it.
As crazy as not using my cell phone in the middle of a zombie takeover sounded, she was right, so I handed it over. I got the hit. You just need to get the map.
I glanced over my shoulder at Cheri. She had gone completely silent, almost catatonic really. Poor girl, I can’t imagine witnessing my father be killed the way hers was. I decided that we should leave her alone so that she could grieve. She sat in the miniscule hatch back, leaning her head against the back window, and had curled up into a tiny ball of weeping girl. We could only leave her be for so long, though. Unfortunately, the reality was that she needed to get tough.
Kylee shifted in her seat again. Okay you guys, I got it.
Put it on GPS,
I told her. It’s the blue arrow.
After a minute or so of fiddling with the phone, I heard the female voice tell us, Travel forward three blocks to 1st Street and turn right onto Main.
Finally having a destination I was able to speed up. As we headed down the crowded streets, I considered just how important this decision really was. People were out in the lamp lit streets everywhere. Some were fighting off zombies, some were fighting each other, and others were just standing there screaming like idiots. Somehow, there was garbage all over the place. Why was it that, in every depiction of the end of the world, there is garbage everywhere?
Choosing this car had been a very, very wise decision. I zipped in between stalled cars and dodged stray people in the streets. I even had to go up on the sidewalk
