      The Zodiac Bar and Grill sat empty on a lonely stretch of highway, its once lively facade streaked with the grime of abandonment and neglect.

      Overhead, the faded sign that bore its name creaked lifelessly in the ceaseless plains wind. Inside, tables and chairs lay overturned on the floor, collecting dust.
