    Setting Up Shop

    Planning and creating the physical space for your business is an important task. So important, in fact, that we devote several chapters to various aspects of it. In Book 6: Choosing Your Equipment, we provide advice about how to decided on equipment and how to choose the best equipment for your purposes. In Book 7: Organizing Your Space, we deal with retail, distribution and manufacturing space requirements and layout. In Book 8: Organizing Information, we focus in on creating filing and storage systems and managing the flow of information into and out of your business. Finally, in Book 17: Using Technology, we go into considerable detail about technology choices. This chapter focuses on setting up the cockpit, to use an airplane metaphor, the control center for getting all your management and communications work done efficiently and effectively.

    If you are just starting your own business, or if you are moving to a new or bigger location, you have a million little details to work out. All businesses need headquarters but for a small, micro or one person business having the best possible office environment is critical.
