Awaken: Episode 1: Scene 1: Chaos
It was at around two thirty two a.m. on a Friday morning when NASA received a series of encrypted messages from Phoenix 1, a space exploration expedition made up of two teams of astronauts. Both teams were made up of scientists, engineers, and two anthropologists. All the messages between the groups and ground control were being relayed through Space Center Houston. The first one, the initial encounter, was met with high hope and anticipation since it marked the dawn of a new era: the unveiling of the Esther, an alien installation embedded deep within lunar soil.
Along with the audio and video, high resolution digital images were sent back to ground control containing amazing footage of the incredible monument. Standing fifteen stories tall, the structure looked massive in width and took up a huge chunk of the ground as it spiked upwards like a smaller replica of one of the pyramids in Egypt. But instead of having a brown hue, it bore an egg-shell white radiance. For years, astronauts had been uncovering it with the help of terra-forming machinery that had been sent out on different Apollo missions. NASA had long been waiting for the day they would finally uncover it completely. The curiosities of the high ranking officials within the agency had been on the edge ever since its first sighting. But since it was erected on the dark side of the moon, for years, NASA had no way of acquiring imagery for analysis from the earth, even with the use of the powerful telescopes at their disposal.
Phoenix 1, this is Capsule Communicator (CC), requesting status.
CC … this is Phoenix 1 Commander, we are a go. Teams are engaging the facility. It looks operational. We are running tests to see if we can integrate into the system and run diagnostics.
Roger. Proceed with the mission. You are clear.
The specialists worked around the clock trying to bring the alien facility to full operational status so they could run a series of systems checks. Inquisitiveness filled their minds as they paced back and forth trying to decipher the structure’s purpose. Having already worked non-stop, they all could feel the fatigue weighing them down. Right at around midday, Team Alpha alternated shifts with Bravo Team so that they could get some rest. Having two teams on site allowed them to keep working on the project without any delay. The hours went by in the blink of an eye. Without any rest, Team Alpha was ready to take over shift.
Charlie, our specialists think that the facility might be some kind of beacon. Perhaps we can use it to communicate with whoever created this thing. Team Bravo is on the brink, and Team Alpha will be taking over soon.
Roger. CDR, you are advised to continue. We will be standing by.
