Reviews for Erin the Fire Goddess

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Freshly told, Erin the Fire Goddess is an engaging story, aimed for young adults. The author, Lavinia Urban, presents it in first-person narrative, which indicates a deep bond with the character. So it is no wonder that she chose to name the main character and her sister after her own two daughters. I think that the story comes from the deep—both memories from the past, and observation of how children behave and what they feel at present, both of which makes Erin’s voice ring true and compelling. It is at times sad, at times playful. The story brings back the agony of growing up, being afraid of falling short of expectations in the eyes of schoolmates, fending off bullies and school, and finding a way to overcome this agony. Perhaps the most difficult thing is the challenge to control the fire inside.Four stars.
