The Life We Chose Has Consequences, Chose Wisely- Unknown
April 2001
Please, please, please just give me this one pack,
pregnant Angie pleaded. I swear on my baby’s life I’ll go to rehab tomorrow.
For added effect, she rubbed a hand over her huge stomach.
How many months is you, ma?
Tre asked in his own distinct accent, then looked down at her stomach.
Six months,
she replied, as they stood in the doorway of one of Tre’s drug houses, where she’d stopped him on his way out. Tre ran and controlled the majority of the heroin houses on the west side of town, and even though he sold drugs, he was strict on his rules. One of his major rules was to never to sell to a pregnant woman. Angie had been buying dope from the same spot for years up until she got pregnant. At first, she hid her stomach, but when she began to show and Tre’s workers noticed, that’s when they cut her off. Tre looked at her stomach again. She was huge. His thoughts were broken up when she reached out and grabbed his hand.
Come on baby,
she begged. Just this one pack, pleeeaaase?
Angie wasn’t a bad looking chick and was used to getting what she wanted. She was young and she kept up her appearance.
Come on Angie, you know how I feel about them babies.
He grabbed her by the arm and swung her around. His eyes went straight to her ass. But damn, you do look like you been taking care of yourself.
He turned and opened the door he’d just walked out of and told one of his workers to come to the porch.
Seconds later the door opened again and one of Tre’s workers named Q stuck his head out of the door.
Yeah, what up Tre?
Tre held one of his hands out in front of Q, but kept his eyes on Angie. Let me get a pack Q.
Q hesitated and Tre turned his attention to him, and Angie flashed Q a sly smile behind Tre’s back.
But - ,
Q said in an effort to protest, but was cut off by Tre.
But nothing!
Tre barked. Just give me a pack, Q!
Confused, Q reached in his pocket. Tre’s number one rule was to never sell drugs to pregnant women, but Tre was the boss. He pulled out a pack and placed it in Tre’s extended hand, then turned and went back in the house shaking his head. Tre gave Angie the pack and she snatched him into a hug and kissed his cheek.
Thank you Tre baby,
she said seductively.
Yeah, whatever,
he said dryly. Just make sure you take your ass to rehab tomorrow.
Angie walked off into the dark night with her head down and the feeling that Tre was watching her; she picked up her pace and hoped that he didn’t notice that
