    THE RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF an urgent care center plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury. The department should be designed to provide accurate, efficient, and timely radiology service to its clinical providers and patients. Equipment, workflow, and interpretation are some of the major considerations in designing a radiology department.

    Radiology is a branch of health sciences that uses imaging to identify injuries and to diagnose and treat diseases inside the body. The acquisition of the images is usually performed by the radiology technologist. The images are first interpreted by the on-site clinician (primary interpretation). Most urgent care centers have their studies overread by a board-certified radiologist for patient safety and quality assurance. The radiologist then completes the study with a final interpretation in the form of a report, which is transmitted back to the clinician with the timeliness and quality that meet the needs of each specific clinic and patient.
