About this ebook
"Discover the courage to overcome fear, and you'll live a life without limits." Walking on Fire contains the author's message that no matter whether you're experiencing physical, mental or emotional suffering, there are ways to control it, overcome it, and learn to live life to the fullest in spite of it.
Paul's harrowing, colorful (and humorous) stories of surviving adversity are perfect examples of how to triumph over obstacles and challenges life tosses at you. Having grown up in Zimbabwe and the African Bush, he incorporated the tools of survival into practical techniques for tackling and managing pain at all levels.
"Only you can decide whether you want to stay at the bottom of despair, or rise above it and defeat it. Only you can decide when enough is enough and you'll start fighting for your life. My greatest joy will be to know the lessons I learned from my experiences with debilitating pain will lead you to your own Oasis of Hope and Healing. The reward is the journey, but the true gift is what lives in one's heart forever."
Having grown up in Harare and Zimbabwe, he’s lived in a culture known for life and death situations that permeate the treacherous outlands of the Bush. In spite of the deadly situations he’s faced (many of which are written about in this book), Africa will always be his home as he treasures its people, their culture, and their amazing outlook on life.
“The closest African belief to my own principles is Ubuntism -- a philosophy indigenous to African culture. It’s the principle of helping others whether they’re family, friends or even strangers. No matter your ethnicity, we’re like one big family and that goes a long way to healing and recovery. This culture of living to serve others has helped me massively in my journey, and has bred in me the desire to reach out to others in need.
The environment here has no doubt been my salvation. I don’t know if I could live anywhere else in the world and experience the freedom I do here. It’s a freedom that nurtures recovery, inner peace and contentment.”
In this land of daily challenges, survival has meant more to Nobes than outrunning lions and hyena, and living through droughts and economic downturns. Having suffered 25 years of chronic physical pain, he discovered the principles in Walking on Fire: The Journey Back from Pain and Suffering while finding ways to beat back death and stay alive to enjoy sunrises and sunsets over the African horizon.
"Walking on Fire is not intended to be a literature masterpiece, but merely a way to share my experience to give strength and hope to others in pain. My mission is to help make the world a better place one person at a time, one book at a time, and one message at a time. The Zambezi River is where I clear my mind by walking the Bush and fishing for Tiger Fish. Watching hippos and crocs go about their business, and elephants and antelope sauntering down to drink and feed, I thank God every day that I’ve been allowed to live in this magical land that has made me who I am today. It is truly heaven on earth.”
Walking on Fire is the first in a series of soon to be released books under the Oasis of Hope and Healing umbrella. Paul can be contacted via his website Oasis of Hope and Healing about speaking engagements, and his coaching/mentoring program.

White water rafting and bungee jumping off Victoria Falls Gorge (and free-falling 200 feet to the other side) have been regular occurrences for African-born author, Paul Nobes, who incorporated survival lessons into practical tools and techniques for enduring physical, emotional and mental pain. Having grown up in Harare and Zimbabwe, he’s lived in a culture known for life and death situations that permeate the treacherous outlands of the Bush. Having suffered 25 years of chronic physical pain, he discovered the principles in WALKING ON FIRE: The Journey Back from Pain and Suffering while finding ways to beat back death and stay alive to enjoy sunrises and sunsets over the African horizon. A journeyman by trade -- and in addition to his coaching and mentoring practice (to help people suffering from chronic pain, and emotional pain such as depression, anxiety, fear, OCD and addiction) and involvement with community enterprises -- he owns Cutting Edge, his craftsman wood furniture design firm he runs with the assistance of local artisans. “All products are designed and created by myself. When I first started the company, because of my physical limitations I worked in a mobile work chair with six wheels so I could be off my feet, but mobile whilst I worked on the shop floor. Today I can stand for a lot longer than I used to without experiencing much discomfort, which I owe to the principles in my book. Walking on Fire is not intended to be a literature masterpiece, but merely a way to share my experience to give strength and hope to others in pain.
