Deeply personal…
David Sheff’s memoir puts a face onto addiction by taking readers on a journey through his son Nic’s struggle with meth. Through personal and honest storytelling, the book will leave the reader with a deeper understanding of the crisis that is sweeping the country and empathy for those who are suffering. The movie adaptation stars Steve Carrell and Timothée Chalamet.

Description

Before Nic Sheff became addicted to crystal meth, he was a charming young boy who was joyous, intelligent, and funny. He was an honor student and athlete adored by his two younger siblings. He had his whole life ahead him. However after being introduced to meth, Nic became a fragile specter of what he once was. He was a ghost who lied, stole, cheated, and spent his days out on the streets. The author, David Sheff, reflects on those first, subtle warning signs: the lies, the excuses, the 2 a.m. phone calls, the broken promises of getting sober, the endless trips to rehab. As his own preoccupation with his son’s addiction became a form of addiction in and of itself, the obsessive stress that both father and son were faced with took a tremendous toll on their lives. But as a journalist and a father, he refused to give up. He turned over every rock and researched every avenue to find the right treatment that would save his son’s life.

Beautiful Boy is a brutally honest memoir that brings about an emotional rollercoaster of love and turmoil as a man tries desperately to save his son.
