Kate was born in Newark, Ohio, and lived there until age nine when her family moved to Barrington, Rhode Island. They moved again to California just in time for Kate to attend college in Berkeley, which is where she met her husband-to-be, Paul. Kate and Paul attended law school together and settled down in Sacramento to raise a family: son Paul Michl; daughter Amanda; Murphy the trusty (if tiny) watchdog; and Scooter the cat/hunter. They all live in Elk Grove now, and Kate divides her time between her day job as an attorney for the state of California and her writing. When she's not writing, she hangs out with her family in the vicinity of the TV, reads or cooks the many Mexican recipes handed down to her by her late mother-in-law. Kate loves to hear from readers. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This one sounded really interesting from the cover and from a synopsys it might sound good. Sabrina Sullivan has been hiding out because her ex-agent father was killed in a bomb blast by a guy who has declared that he's going to take his revenge on her father's entire family. Her sister is missing, Sabrina is going to find her but she needs help, so she turns to her father's old company and finds help in the form of Zack. Tempramental but reliable, but she finds that there are lies within lies, and who can she really trust. But it just doesn't gel. The maguffin of the hypnosis drug is overused, Zack and Sabrina don't really show any firm relationship to each other, the only tension really between them is issues of trust, not issues of love or liking. The characters themselves were quite good but they just seemed to be puppets outside of a few moments where their real selves shone through. It's readable and not the worst, but I wouldn't be rushing to get more by Kate Donovan.
