About this ebook

Historical, unique, and informative, Ben Hogan's Letter Lessons is a fully documented authenticated eBook of one of golf’s greatest legendary heroes. Written with the use of hyperlinked videos from Fernando Cano's 1953 home videos, has given the reader's awareness of how Mr. Hogan felt and performed his golf swing.

Martin has utilized Mr. Hogan's last name as a template in learning how to perform the correct golf swing notated in the handwritten letter with physical exercises and drills.

In this eBook, author Billy Martin details Ben Hogan's handwritten letter written to a fellow PGA professional, Pat Mahoney. He discovers how the great Walter Hagan explained in great detail to Mr. Hogan how the golf swing should be performed in a “correct method” by utilizing of stickman characters. The illustrations and narrative were written in 1948, one year prior to Mr. Hogan's bus accident. Martin also reveals Mr. Hogan's thoughts on how the “basis of a good sound swing is correct leg work and body position”, and that “the center of gravity of the body must stay in one place through the swing”. Ben Hogan's Letter Lesson is a historical document that Hogan admirers must read.

    Why I Wrote This Book

Some folks who got close to him were a little put off by some of his answers or how he made them think. I only wish that I could have seen him hit golf balls or spoke to him.

I would have watched a genius in motion. I believe Mr. Hogan had a very creative mind and a structured mind. I am a budding screenwriter and I know that there are these two distinct ways that the mind works.

One creates snowflake creative thoughts and the other process is putting items in a structured pattern. I believe that Mr. Hogan had the ability to do both at the same time. Wow!

I wanted to hit as many golf balls as I could while I still was able to, and utilize what I was reading, in the handwritten letter and watching his marvelous golf swing that was taken in 1953.

I have a background in golf instruction and I am well versed in the different methods that teachers teach the golf swing. I wanted to find a way that golfers can learn the golf swing and then take it to the golf course.

Mr. Hogan did believe that you could not teach a golf swing but the golfer has to learn it. God Bless, Ben Hogan!

Why You Should Read This Book

I believe that you will be able to grasp his handwritten better by reviewing my thoughts and ideas from my journey utilizing Mr. Hogan's letter.I have broken the letter down into Mr. Hogan's last name. It fit perfectly while I was out striking the golf balls.

Letter Lesson H stands for the Steady Head Position. Mr. Hogan's center of gravity of his swing and his character was based on his Honesty.

Letter Lesson O For the One Piece Handless Takeaway signifies Mr. Hogans momentum in moving the club back from the ball and his overcoming of obstacles in life as in his horrible 1949 bus accident.

Letter Lessons G – For the proper Grip and for being a Gentleman and being Gracious would go hand in hand with Mr. Hogan's dedication to detail about how he put his hands on the club and in his gentlemanly manners.

Letter Lesson – A – For the Correct Address would signify his attentiveness to detail and how he appeared to the public. He left nothing to chance and always wanted to make the best swing possible.

Letter Lesson N – For The End of the Swing or the Hogan Finish would stand for in the dirt or integrity that he used to create this marvelous swing and build sound relationships with his friends and business partners.

    Dedication

This is how I want to remember my Dad, Woodrow Martin. He was always funny and helpful. He led a rough life, just like Ben Hogan. His Father was killed performing duties as a police officer in South Carolina.

My Dad had 5 brothers and sisters and all of them were placed in separate orphanages. They were called asylums. Without his passion for the game of Golf, I would not have ever picked up a golf club. I know I would not have grown into a man that I am today.

    Thank you, Dad!

    Acknowledgment

I am in debt to the Fernando Cano family for the usage of film shot by Fernando Cano of Ben Hogan in Mexico in 1953.

These are very rare and insightful footages of Mr. Hogan. The permission to use film and pictures granted by his son, Pepe are critical for the instruction given in this Ebook. Thank you, the Cano family.
